They don't always exist or rather, they only exist in certain circumstances. Ruby is a fusion of sorts, one mind with two faces. They also have 2 different versions of themself depending on said circumstances:

True Ruby forms when willful harmony is achieved; they can "cure" anyone affected by the bishop's black paint, and is a navigator for those who wish to leave DEMA (and possibly Trench altogether) peacefully. This is their preferred form and most humane one as well.

Pure Ruby is formed under forced measures; their touch only amplifies the bishop's powers and their desire to be whole and complete (as this version feels empty and incomplete to themself) outweighs their peaceful nature, becoming a danger to anyone around them. If you are not careful, you will join them.
