i also picked up the what if dark spider-gwen issue a couple weeks ago, because my approach to comics was to select one character per major publisher that i actually care about and my love of gwen means if i see her i now immediately jump for her, and

that was a whole lot of story for basically nothing to happen. like, i thought it might kinda suck but i wasn't prepared for whatever that was. however i did get this great meme out of it

i also recently actually read (most of, not quiiiite done yet) the 2014 spider-verse event and overall i thought it was fun! i liked seeing all the small details that may or may not have been in mind when making the spiderverse movies (i picked out several in the moment but don't recall them right this second)

after reading the first two edge of spider-verse volumes last night, i have thoughts

#1 was cool! i didn’t know a ton about spider-man noir, and i still don’t, but i do still love his vibes

#2 was admittedly part of the reason i decided to read it in the first place, since this was spider-gwen’s introduction, and i think it does a solid job at that! it’s interesting to see how they lifted parts of this story almost word for word for the movie scenes with gwen in atsv (in particular, the rest of the mary janes snapping her back to reality + the speech she gives to her dad); and it’s insane to me how much story is covered in literally just this single issue- iirc the entire origin story isn’t even a full page, it’s kind of insane

i think it works well as an introduction but i would’ve liked to see it be a little more drawn out, honestly; it felt a little rushed (but i’ve heard she was mostly meant to be a one-off event character at first, so maybe that’s why?)
