"Brother, I know you find Lyanna to be beautiful. Don't lie."
❝ I’d be blind were Ito deny such fact, brother. It is not a sin to admire beauty but Iwould not steal her for myself since I have a wife; most importantly, knowing that you covet her—do you not? Is that what worries you? ❞

Once, Cersei would have been giddy at the prospect of the wedding now being planned: she and Rhaegar Targaryen, the dragon prince she so admired as a girl. That was before, though. They have survived a war now; Rhaegar has lost a wife and two children; Cersei has abandoned childish dreams for a love more potent and true -- and the object of her affections slaughtered the father of her intended.
She cannot imagine it will be a typical arrangement. Not now. Not with all they have lived through, all they have seen, all they have become. Still, there is the throne to consider: she will be q u e e n, and that is worth the uncertainty behind the marriage that will afford her the title.
After she attends the final fitting of the grand, ostentatious gown she will wear when she is wed, she seeks out her betrothed to update him on the pro- ceedings. It is a businesslike conversation, more akin to an alliance forming than something that could become love. “My dress is finished,” she informs Rhaegar upon finding him in the gardens of the Red Keep. “And it is very much to my liking. I have my jewels and shoes set aside, as well, and a good idea of how I shall wear my hair. My part in this planning is all but finished. How goes the rest?”
