"I bet you did." She spoke softly. "I did too, it is one of those things I could do over and over again for an eternity." And well, she has been doing it.

"Both." She chuckled. "The students and I will watch it together." Finally eying him she smiled excitedly. "I'm sure it will be great."

Lovely surprise

Summer was supposed to be easy going for most people, but not to Rubeus and Setsuna. After they got back from their little getaway in Kyoto, the couple found themselves swamped by work. Setsuna had been particularly busy with her dissertation and soon enough she would have to defend it, only a few weeks from now. Summer was certainly a busy time in a flower shop, which kept Rubeus working late and working from home.

Even though the two were still together almost evey night at his apart, they barely had time for themselves. Those things made date nights scarce.

The sun shone brightly that day. July 24th. How fitting. Shone as brightly as he did to her, shone as brightly as his smile and her happiness to be with him. It didn't matter if things were rough regarding dates, she still had him by her side and their bond was as tight as ever.

That morning she prepared him a special beakfast, gave him a little something and acted as if that was it. The two made love, spent a lazy moment together and both left for work.

However, earlier than she'd usually do, Setsuna left work and went straight to his apartment, knowing that tonight he would stay out late. She prepared everything, from decoration and ambience to the wonderful food she offered him.

The light was dimmed, very discretely, she decided to only use candles in the center of the table, for many reasons. Everything else was decorated with a few silly balloons in the color of red, to get him to laugh as he spotted the room. She knew he'd call her sappy or something like that, but it didn't matter. He was right, she was sappy.

Unlike what she'd normally make, tonight's dish was steak, mashed potatoes, buttered corn, and a bread roll. Setsuna wasn't used to make these kinds of dishes, which made her add some very good salad for herself. The food was very western - but he would like it, she knew his taste. For dessert? Chocolate cake. For drinks? Beer, since he likes those every now and then and wine for herself.

She had thought of going out, had thought of taking him somwhere fancy, but the thought of being alone with him, intimacy, just the two of them sounded much more appealing.

Jazz music played softly, a beautifully wrapped gift and a stunning Setsuna waited for Rubeus, patiently, eager to shower him with affection. Eager to give him the first of the many surprises she could give him for a birthday.

Romance in Kyoto ||| Setsuna & Rubeus

Hina knew something different was happening to her niece when she became ever more silent and reserved, especially when the subject was romance. Suddenly, out of the blue, Setsuna was quieter and not calling as much. Suddenly, her niece was never home and when she called her cell phone, the younger woman took her time to answer it, sometimes calling back only in the next day. Odd behavior.

It was due to Michiru possibly purposeful indiscretion that she learned her dear niece was seeing someone on a regular basis. Hm, she should have guessed that. It was about time Setsuna started caring about her personal life.

After a long talk on the phone in which her niece told the whole story, including that the relationship had taken the serious route, Hina was more than decided to come to Tokyo and meet the man in her niece's life but Setsuna insisted that she didn't. Days later Setsuna called: she'd come visit and bring her boyfriend with.

"Not now." She said. "I have to see a time we are both available. Don't worry, I'll let you know."

And it was worth the wait. Hina got the phone call announcing the visit. Three days with her niece and her boyfriend would be interesting. This would be the first time Setsuna brought someone with her to Kyoto aside from Hotaru and the others.

Packing was hard. She packed a pre selection of items and took to Rubeus' apartment only to make another selection, considering the items she kept at his apartment instead of his house.

Setsuna wanted to take shoes to wear out on romantic dates, as well as comfortable shoes for long walks, shoes for hiking and walks, shoes for dancing... Clothes for every occasion as well. They hadn't really decided on what they were going to do yet, but she figured she wanted to be prepared for each and every situation.

The jewelry - she did not forget the ruby necklace and earrings - and of course part of her watch collection were taken with her as well as her lap top and books because as much as she wanted to believe she would relax she knew she'd end up studying.

Haruka drove them to the train station and they were able to get into the bullet train that take the least amount of time to get at the city - by Rubeus insistence, Setsuna would be please to drive all the way there.

"We could at least drive back." She spoke as they settled in their two spots. The train was rather empty, only a few people around which was good for an early morning.

"I don't mind driving. You can get to see all the other towns on the way, you know." She smiled as she looked at him. He was sitting by the window so he could see the view, or at least what was possible, considering how fast the train was going.

She couldn't hide her excitement for their trip together. During the previous week she had taken care of all the necessary details. Their breakfast time had been a cheerful moment and she couldn't wait for the most important woman in her life to meet that increasingly important man.

Her hand search and found his as she laced her fingers with his, her other hand messing with few papers with a list of what to do and images to illustrate.

"Kinkaku-ji is an iconic landmark, not only because it is a famous temple but because of the garden...

as well as the Ginkaku-ji, another must see."

She went on. "There's Gion, this Geisha district with wonderful constructions and tea houses.

The manga museum... oh, there is the shopping district of course, the art museums and there are some Hot Springs too." She turned to him with a big smile. She couldn't believe her luck.

Journal Entry

Just realize how long since I wrote here last... Work has been keeping me busy - but it doesn't make sense to apologize to a journal.

Remind myself to pick up my dress from dry cleaning.

Me and him...we took our time to let things happen, and I know the attraction was there from the beginning, but we really took our time and became friends before anything else happened.

We flirted. He charmed me, I charmed him. We took our time to kiss, certainly took our time to have sex. And when we did… Something happened that night. I never thought I'd say these words but I do think that somehow, our souls merged, somehow, and since then I know I am his. And I am entirely powerless. I am trapped in my own feelings for him. It should be absolutely terrifying to belong to someone, someone forbid he ever realizes I belong to him.

I was not thinking about any of this - I have not been thinking for the past few months, I have been feeling. Experiencing. Living.

Spending just a number of days away from him broke my heart (this sounds childish when I write, hopelessly romantic and just not something anyone should think) I thought of him all along. There was no need for so much suffering and yet it was hard. I am a soldier who watched people die over and over and this is hard? I am clearly losing my senses.

I shouldn't allow this to happen. And then he touches me. And I can’t do anything. It doesn't need to be that kind of touch either. It can be a tap in my shoulder to point at something in the TV I missed because I was distracted, reading.

Am I losing my sense of self? Merging, becoming a part of him? I like being alone, being my own. I always have. And now I am his and he is mine and I want to be together so much, I am satisfied with waking up by his side every day

Setsuna, you are losing your mind. And the worst part is: he may call me any time. “Puu” he’ll say. That’s enough to destroy barriers I should want to build (that I don't, I don't want anything between us.)

I will never know if he sees how I see. We don't really talk about feelings, in fact, we don't have to. That doesn't mean he never talks - he talks a lot. I am constantly reminded of how beautiful, gorgeous, wonderful I am. He calls me perfect as if he means it, and he does mean his words. I should be scared because meeting someone's expectation is so hard but he makes it all seem so natural and easy. And yet, even though he claims all those things, he never gives me the feeling I am not...human, myself. Never hesitates in making me feel like I can be what I am around him. A nerd, like he says. I don't know how to put into words - it is as if with everyone else there is always "that" idea playing in their heads. There aren't many people willing to just be themselves around me, allow me to be myself, no masks, no mystery, just...us.  Being fully accepted feels more than what I can say. He said that day that I could be whatever I wanted with him. It wasn't a lie.

Life with him is just incredible. I really have to force myself not to see his apartment as my home or to realize we aren't family because I do see him as part of mine.

Sometimes I want to tell him all I think of us and explain all my feelings but when I go through the words in my head I wouldn't be able to start and it all becomes impossible to explain, I would have to list all the wonderful things he gives me and it would become so tiring wouldn't it? Because I'd have to repeat myself everyday, I don't think words would be able to convey what I have inside of me.

Does he see how I see? That feelings once transformed in words may lose their true essence. A label is not enough to define the whole spectrum of what people feel. It isn’t something one can classify, it isn't an exact science, it isn't explainable, it isn't for me to put into words.

Is this why people say "I love you" then? An easier way to express all of that?
