Seo Barajas and I created this arrangement of a "Metallica Mix" to perform as a duet. This video is from a January 11th acoustic show at Rudino's Sports Bar, Pizza & Grinders in North Austin. The piece contains excerpts from: "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "The Unforgiven", "Wherever I May Roam", "Enter Sandman"and "Sad But True". We are currently working on a full band arrangement that will be performed at the April 14th benefit show at The Dogwood in downtown Austin. I have another acoustic performance at Rudino's tomorrow (3/29) from 7-10. Several special guests will be joining me including Catalina Johnson and Steve Singer. Hope to see you tomorrow evening!
The most recent song that I have written is titled "Better Day". It is based around the concept of having a positive attitude and believing in yourself. It is written in the key of D Major. I rarely write in major keys as I'm always afraid that the vibe will be too sappy or cheesy. I was playing around with some open string chord voicings that I just thought were really pretty. I am using a lot of added tensions like sevenths, ninths, elevenths & thirteenths with some large octave spans due to the open strings. I decided that it was too pretty not to use so I just went with it. It's got a point of view of: yeah, maybe life's not perfect and everything's not turning out as planned but keep reaching for what you want and stay true to yourself and keep working towards a better tomorrow. I've only played it live a few times and this is the first time that I got it on video. The venue is Rudino's Sports Bar in North Austin. I am looking forward to my next show there which will be Friday January 11th.
