Part 1 of 2
“Are you ready?” he swore if someone asked him that one more time he would punch them in the face. I mean really what type of question was that! Of course he wasn’t ready. Who would be? In just hours he would turn 22 and be transported to who knows where into some random person’s body. He of course had taken all the necessary steps to be ready. Told his profs’ he would be gone, got permission slips and forms for the moment, talked with local authorities so they knew, and called everyone on his contact list warning them of the event. There were notes all over his room with descriptions of himself. Old photo albums opened, notes of his favorite spots, extra money if they needed to travel, everything his soulmate would need. Now he sat beside his two best friends, who had already gone through this only to discover that they were each other soulmates, and watched as the clock ticked down.
“I got to tell you dude,” his friends said to his right. “Being a girl is really weird. Just pray that you find yourself before the time of the month because if you don’t. Well man you're in for one hell of a time.” The man’s soulmate laughed at that and put a reassuring arm on his shoulders.
“You’ll be fine,” she said and then the clock began to chime. With each loud and annoying ding he tried not to panic and run from the room for all it was worth. It wouldn’t help much. In fact, it would make it harder on his mate, so he stayed still.
“Well make sure to tell her all about the great things about you before you get back.” His friend teased, right as he began to feel the tingle of the change. Then the world went black.
Waking up in a different person’s body was well… no one could prepare you for it. When he opened his eyes, he knew immediately, he was in trouble. The posters hanging on the walls were definitely not in English. Groggily, he dragged himself up, rubbing his head in pain. First thing was first, finding out who he was. It didn’t take long for him to scorer the small room and discover his name and shortly after that, panic.
Mia. She was younger! He had heard about this happening, when a soulmate wasn’t yet 22 and you found yourself in a body and situation where everyone was unaware. But for goodness sake, 16! She was 16!!! God only he would get into this sort of mess. But she was a pretty girl he could say that, even if it made him feel gross. He didn’t know how things worked in Germany, but he knew he was in for one hell of a ride.
“Mia aufwachen Sie zu spät zur Schule wird!” a female voice called from the other side of the walls. Crap! How was he going to explain this one.
After finding her phone, going on the ever so accurate google translate, he made his way downstairs. There he found a very, to his standards, loud and large family waiting. He then went about tumbling his way through translating, watching as realization dawned on her family, being yelled at for a bit by a very angry father and two older brothers, watching as the mother calmed everything down, and then finally settling into a chair to figure it all out.
It was a long and painful process to try to explain to them who he was, and where he came from. It was hard for him to sit in another person’s body and watch her family come to terms with the fact that their little baby girl was across the world right now with the close friends of her soulmate. When the mother learned that he was a orphan and had been since the age of ten, she scooped him into a hug and held him tight for what seemed like forever.
It felt good to feel a mother’s touch and love again but it was also strange for him. For the next few days this circus of a situation continued. The family he found himself I was not a wealthy one but after talking and meeting some friends and neighbors and extended family, they were able to gather what they needed to send him back to America and his home in California, to his college to meet his soulmate. He left two week later, at the beginnings of the dreaded period, that the brothers made sure to tease him about and the mother awkwardly walked him through, to America. With a promise to bring their little girl back, he hugged his new family goodbye and boarded a plan.
“Oh man have we got a story to tell you.” Was he first thing that came from his best friends mouth when they met at the airport. He didn’t pay him much attention though as he looked around the room for her, no his body. She wasn’t there and he instantly felt his heart sink.
“Don’t worry man she’s fine and at home. The girl put together a surprise for you. You're one spoiled guy. I mean girl.” his best friend let out a loud laugh that that. “but really man. I'm jealous. Well other than the she’s too young to marry thing. But hey, you were the one talking about how you weren’t yet ready, so there you go! You got all the time in the world. You’re going to love her. She’s so kind and innocent. She always changes with her eyes closed and never throws a fit. I mean sure the distance will be hard but she’s so worth it.” they got in the car not to long after and made the long drive back to his place.
He could feel his heart breaking through his… her chest as they pulled into the driveway and got out. With two calming breaths, he stepped forward and pulled the door open. It was a strange thing to see himself standing on the other side of the room. It wasn’t quite like looking through a mirror because he was much taller than his mate and she saw him differently then he saw himself. He could see the way she looked at him with uncertainty in her, his eyes. He took charge and stepped toward her, his arm outstretched. When they were within a inch of each other, the tingling began. Then the world went black.
It took him a moment to readjust to his original body, but when he did, he instantly went to her. She was sprawled across the floor, knocked down by the transition. He hovered over her trying to respect her space. Even though he had lived weeks inside that body it was different seeing it through his eyes. He knew she would be frightened so he gave her as much space and time as he could. Finally, she opened her big blue eyes and looked up at him. He could feel his heart leap as she stole his breath away.
“Hello,” her soft and gentle voice range through his small apartment. With that, his new life began.
