“Go ahead. Tell us what you saw.”
“Her. Magnoliablossom. She was…”
“We need you to tell us what you saw. Your testimony will help us find out what happened to her.”
“. . . Okay. I was trying to find her. She had been missing for two days by then, and I was starting to get worried. Magnolia is always going off on her own, so not seeing her for half a day, maybe a day, was not that odd. But two days. . . It felt like too long.”
“How did you know where to look?”
“I have tried to follow her before, just to see where she was going. Magnolia is always so mysterious. She always laughed, whenever she caught me, and told me to go back to camp.
"Every cat deserves a little time now and again. Besides, what’s life but a great mystery we’re all trying to unravel? Half the fun is keeping a little for yourself."
"And where did you find her?"
"Not too far from camp, along her usual path. I have never gone past that point, so finding her was. . ."
"Difficult, we can imagine. Please describe the scene for us, in as much detail as you can."
"Her chest was. . . r-ripped open. She was lying on the ground, and there was s-so much blood, under her, around her. Like it had sprayed everywhere. That is all I saw before. . ."
"You fainted. We found you. With two missing Clanmates, at some point cats start to worry and go looking, much like you did for old Mags. It was chaos. Cats everywhere, yowling, contaminating the scene. We've been back several times, but you couldn't pick a mouse scent from a rogue's with all the smells out there. We couldn't even tell which set of paw prints was from the perpetrator. Now that it's a confirmed murder, the ante just upped, and we're almost back to square one with the clues."
"One final question for now."
"What was your relationship with the victim?"
"Oh Rug-a-bug, don't worry. I always come back. You'll see me tomorrow, I promise."
"She was like a mother to me."
Rugpaw has been added to Magnoliablossom's relationships. Rugpaw has been added as a witness.
