What if we feel a player cheated to get their character to meet requirements for a rank/title? Or that theyre pretending to be two different people on the forum and using the characters on that second account to bolster the other and/or allow themselves to play more characters and avoid the multi. character requirements? Are there punishments for "cheating" and are there punishments for pretending to be two different people?

Pretending to be two people and/or playing multiple characters without permission is absolutely against the rules and a bannable offense. See:

Warnings & Bans, section 3

Warn-able and bannable offenses include, but are not limited to:…8. Playing multiple characters without permission.9. Purposefully being deceitful to members and staff.

Please report players/characters suspect of breaking these rules to the SA, along with any details/proof. Do understand that we can’t act unless there’s something solid to go on though.

Outside of pretending to be two people to play multiple characters, we’re not sure what other ways there might be to “cheat” for a rank/title. If there are no board rules being broken, we would typically leave the situation to a pack leader’s discretion.

If someone accidentally breaks a rule, how long does it take for them to "redeem" themselves as a person who knows what the rules are/won't mess up procedures all the time?

There really isn’t a set time-frame — everyone has broken a rule once or twice by mistake and it’s generally not a big deal. Naturally, small, one-time infractions tend to be forgotten more quickly than repetitive infractions of a similar nature or very large mistakes that cause other issues. Some types of infractions, such as failure to mark mature topics, have their own strike and strike expiration policy, but in general, we don’t even keep track of small things like auxiliary request slip-ups or puppy request confusion.If we’ve had a larger/longer/repetitive issue — e.g., if we needed to ask you twice not to yell at other members in OOC G — it does take a little longer to “expire,” but again, we don’t set hard times for this. We look at how long it’s been since the last infraction, the improvements you’ve made in the interim; it depends and varies from situation to situation.Again, don’t worry if you accidentally break a rule; we know there are a lot of procedures and things can be overwhelming if you aren’t used to them. It’s always good to double-check anything you might not be familiar with. The Game FAQ covers a lot and is a good place to start. Are auxiliary requests solely based on activity? Or would previous IC infractions (godmoding, extreme realism issues, etc.) take play into them as well?

Auxiliary character requests are generally based solely on IC member activity and related factors.IC infractions such as the godmoding, powerplay, and realism issues do not generally come into play for auxiliary character requests; however, in extreme cases, players may be barred from being able to make auxiliary character requests at all, or from being able to pick up their automatic second character, until improvement is shown.

In your list of 'good qualities' for mods, you said "if you’ve had minor misunderstandings with procedure in the recent past, you are not likely to be considered.". Does this mean no asking questions in Questions & Help? Or does it mean more like infractions, like trying to join with a third character without requesting first?

Naw! Everyone should ask questions if they should ask questions! Please never think you’re not supposed to ask questions! o_o How else will you get the answers??Yes, members hoping for responsibilities around the board should be familiar with the rules and procedures of the board, so trying to join with a third character without requesting it first would demonstrate lack of familiarity with those rules and procedures and would be noted as such. If you’re not sure about a thing and you ask about it, that’s fine! If you’re not sure about a thing and you charge forward and do it wrong, that’s a little more frowned upon.

If a member tells the 'SA that someone is being rude or mean, but they really are not, what is decided?

The SA will be the judge of whether someone is "being rude or mean" based on logs provided by the accuser (which may be supplemented by the accused, if desired). However, while we have not had many cases of false accusations or vindictive "reporting," we have had many, many cases where members simply do not understand the impact their words and actions have on others. It is absolutely possible for someone to be rude or mean without intending to be rude or mean.

In these cases, any punitive actions taken may be lesser, but members should make an effort to see things from others' perspectives as much as possible, especially in emotionally charged situations. We really encourage members to take the time to think on situations before responding to whatever disagreement they're having with others.

How do you catch people who are multi-accounting? It seems like it would be really hard unless it was obvious, like they have the exact same writing style or something.

After some consideration, we feel it is perhaps best that we not divulge a list of things that help us identify players that are playing multiple characters without permission. :x It is probably unlikely that such players would go digging too deeply into Tumblr for deceptive tactics, but we hope you understand our caution. ^^;
