According to the logic of the entire wizarding world (or at least Hogwarts), Lance should have been the first one to turn against Keith. How could he not? Their "rivalry" could barely be called a friendship, even if they hung out in the same friend group. Keith was stealing the glory from Lance's House, though Lance figured everyone understood he wasn't exactly beloved in that House anyway. And, of course, because Keith — unlike Lance — somehow managed to cross the Age Line (no one ever figured out why Lance was actually studying the Age Line and the magic behind it in the first place).
No one expects him to be the one who will protect and believe in Keith.
It was hard. The bullying became completely unbearable. Hiding it was difficult, too. Especially knowing that Pidge, though to a lesser extent, was feeling the exact same thing. Ruined assignments, stolen belongings, and the constant whispers behind their backs. Honestly, Lance forced Pidge to move into Allura's dorm, despite it breaking the rules. As if anyone could prove anything. Lance made sure that was impossible.
And if Lotor mockingly asks Lance one more time if supporting a half-blood cheat was worth it? Lance will gladly remind Lotor that his hair is just as susceptible to the Incendio charm as all that "support the true champion" merchandise.
Wait a second. What did Lotor mean by half-blood?
