The Defieler gains different rules depending on which army it is in.
I wish this became a standard for certain units in these games, especially for Chaos units.

The autostubber being S4, but having that rate of fire (3 shots long ranger, 6 shots short range) is funny to me. Better Stormbolter.
I do wish more 40k armies had access to proper LMG equivalents for infantry squads imo. (looking at you, Fire Warriors)
Learn about how Detachments work in the new edition, and how they can be used to create your custom force.
Depending on the size of your game, you’ll be able to choose a number of Detachments based on their Detachment Point cost, ranging from 1 for those with gentler rules or narrow unit focuses, to 3 for those that affect your whole army with significant boosts. This new system gives you greater flexibility to hone your army’s theme and make characterful unit choices without compromising on their strength, and also means that some of the bigger, splashier Detachments won’t have an outsized impact on smaller games. For example, as a dedicated Raven Guard aficionado, you might take a Detachment that focuses entirely on the Phobos-clad units, such as Infiltrators. Such a Detachment would offer you Enhancements and Stratagems that are laser-focused on the units you love to use. Combining it with a larger, more general Detachment that affects a broad array of infantry in a Strike Force battle means that you end up with an army bespoke to your playstyle. Note, this doesn't mean that soup armies from lots of different codexes are back on the menu. You'll still choose your army from your Codex, in much the same way as you do now. The Detachments will then give rules that will apply to your whole army, though certain Detachments and rules may only affect certain units within it.
So, likely for something like Tau, you can take a smaller detachment of Kroot, give them the auxillary detachemnt to boost Kroot, then have a more generalist detachment for your other units, is how I understand it.
I could see this possibly being used to integrate things like Brood-Brothers, Xenos Mercnaries (and maybe Gue'vesa), Knight allies, Imperial Agents, and daemons/cultists for Chaos armies. But we will see.
New detachments, for the Greater Good!
Getting mixed (leaning positive) to these new rules.
What catches my eye is this from the Auxillaries Cadre rules:
The classic sneaking cooperation is back, Huzah. Also I do wonder what other detachments will have the "Auxiliaries" tag?
It’s not hiding, it’s tactical! See how rocks and ruins have changed in the new edition.
Crisis Suits and Vespid will have fun flying onto buildings to ambush gue'la.
Charges, pile-ins, and close combat all get an update in Warhammer 40,000.
Another key change is ingress moves – which cover all types of special deployment like Deep Strike and other ways of moving in from Strategic Reserve – allow you to set up more than 8” away from enemy models, rather than the current 9”. This means that you still need to roll a 9 to successfully charge out of Deep Strike, but now your potential landing zones are larger, and you have much more flexibility to move your models around when the dice gods are kind.*
Backline tactics took an L, but perhaps for the best.
Check out the new miniature’s powerful rules.
Will get this guy when I do my big Leagues of Votann "Shipbreaker" expansion.
Cthonian Beserks and Brokhyr Thunderkyn that chop up things like ruins of space stations, ships, and even Space Hulks.
Will switch out the head he is holding, perhaps magnitize it so I can switch between different skull-trophies.
New detachments claim glory for Grandfather Nurgle
Death Guard rules, good for them.
What really interests me is the replacement for the Pistol Rules, instead calling it Close Quarters.
Fire Warrior Breacher Teams will get this by default most likely, with different Suits getting it. Farsight will probably give this out, and perhaps as a detachment rule as well?
