53. RequestleMania III – EVEN MORE Fan Requested Matches!
As Rumble Week continues, we thought it’d be appropriate to bring you the grandaddy of ‘em all: REQUESTLEMANIA! In the third installment of this continuing fan request series (in which Nick declares Stephen to have a streak of “0-2” so far), the boys first watch a recent bout that pitted Cedric Alexander against the “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi from WWE’s Cruiserweight Classic. Rumble Week concludes with the Three Faces of Foley.
In the 1998 Royal Rumble, Mick Foley managed to enter the Rumble as Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love. Foley clearly had his work cut out for him on this night. Even though the odds of him winning were dramatically increased, he ended up being eliminated three times as well.
Hope you all enjoyed Rumble Week. I'll be back tomorrow with a Royal Rumble Preview article.
Rumble Week moves along with one of the greatest Royal Rumble performances of all-time.
In 1995, Shawn Michaels entered at #1, putting him at a great disadvantage. Even at the end when it looked like all hope was lost, he overcame the odds and survived all 29 other men and became the first person from the #1 spot.
Rumble Week continues with another favorite from recent years.
In 2007, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker were the final two participants left in the ring. They ended up providing the best final two sequence ever and also ended up setting the stage for their two WrestleMania matches a couple of years later.
I remember at the time that a lot of people thought HBK should have won, citing that Cena and HBK would have been the better match at WrestleMania BY FAR, and thus, Shawn should have won. In the end, Undertaker became the first to win at Number 30 and Taker vs. Batista ended up being pretty great.
The only video I could find shows the Rumble from Undertaker's entrance onward, so if you just want to watch the HBK-Taker stuff, start at around 6:20.
And Rumble Week rolls on. This isn't just a Rumble Moment, it's also one of my favorite surprising returns.
In October of 2007, John Cena suffered a serious pectoral injury and was expected to be out past WrestleMania. I had a friend who joked that Cena would return at the Rumble. Not only was he right, but he won the thing. One of the best surprise returns ever because (almost) nobody saw it coming. Even the smarkiest of the smarks, the NYC crowd, blew the roof off of MSG.
