“Uh... how much have you had to drink?” he asked curiously.

“ BUT WHY IS THE RUM GONE?” ( for @rumiisms ) ; accepting
Alys tried to keep a calm and collected expression, one that would convey her disapproval. She really did try, yet she feared she was not wholly successful. Her lips were twitching on their own accord, and she could feel the muscles on her cheeks uplifting in amusement. As she waged her silent battle with herself, it seemed as though the Captain was fighting one of his own. Only, his own battle seemed to be centered around the ability to stand up straight.
“I couldn’t rightly say,” she replied with a light tone, “Perhaps because you drank it all?”
She didn’t think her response was heard, or that it was processed even if it was heard. Jack Sparrow barreled into the foremast of his ship in a very decidedly uncaptainlike way, and the sound of the impact was enough to make her wince. For a moment, she thought about helping him back to his cabin, but decided against it. The captain’s wild gestures unnerved her, and his lack of hygiene even more so. With a sigh, she turned around and left the immediate range, the slurred version of A Pirate's Life for Me following her in every step.
@rumiisms liked for a thing.

Headcanon: The Ships Are Alive!
Consciousness in a ship doesn't just happen for no reason, in reality it happens for a very specific reason. The ship has to be more than JUST a ship to someone. No matter how much love is put into the creation of the ship it is not enough to create consciousness, a ship that has never had passengers will never be conscious because it is JUST a ship.
But a ship that has had passengers becomes more.
To Jack, Pearl (@ofblacksails) is both freedom and home. To Davy Jones and Calypso, The Flying Dutchman was a symbol of their love and commitment. To James Norrington, the Dauntless (@aproperofficer) was the vessel to his very purpose in life.
For ships like the Endeavour and the Queen Anne's Revenge (@priimadcnna) who were captured and recrewed, the person whose bond gave them their consciousness is long since lost to them. This makes their plight a particularly sad one though it is possible for them to create other bonds.
Consciousness and physical form are NOT the same thing, they do NOT happen at the same time, a ship is almost ALWAYS conscious before it has a physical form, but it is conscious in the same way a fetus is. It's alive, it experiences the world but cannot talk nor act upon it's own volition until physical form is achieved. For physical form to be achieved the ship has to be given time for the consciousness to grow, if the bond is removed after the consciousness is created it will take LONGER for it to achieve physical form but it DOES eventually happen.
The only time consciousness and physical form are achieved simultaneously is when a goddess such as Calypso is involved.
