TAG GAME: 11 QUESTIONS ⚡️
(Tagged by @rumiroo!)
Currently watching: Moonlit Reunion, Shadow Love, The Wanted Detective. I think The Journey of Legend might be a drop, unfortunately. I read some spoilers and they were 'eh.' Of these shows they're all enjoyable in their own way, although none are BLOWING MY MIND so I'm not totally binging.
Currently reading: Taste of Marrow, the second book in the what-if-the-old-American-south-was-populated-by-hippos series.
Last song you listened to: It looks like it was Florence and the Machine's new single, One of the Greats.
Last song you sang out loud: lmao I think it was Golden Kpop Demon Hunters. I had to stop myself from singing it under my breath on the way to the bathroom at work.
Currently craving: Just saw an IG ad for a local Mid-Autumn Festival event so now I want mooncakes. Also want Spanish food again. @ local Spanish restaurant why are you expensive.
Coffee or tea: I do drink a lot of floofy sweet iced coffee drinks, but that's the only way I drink coffee. For tea, I like a much wider range of them.
Earbuds or headphones: No earbuds. My ears are too small and they won't go in comfortably. Headphones ONLY.
Last place you went other than home: The vet with my cat (she's fine, she had a dental).
Favourite chips flavour: So specific. I like cheddar and sour cream.
Color that looks good on you: Hmmm, not sure. Greens and blues? My hair is blue rn so shades that look good with that work well. With the short blue hair, whenever I wear a red shirt I feel like it's giving Thing 1 and Thing 2 (but I like red, so I still wear it).
Currently working on: My @wipbigbang fic for Love Game in Eastern Fantasy. I'm so excited to finish and post it. It's been a long time coming. Post-canon! Bamboo Masters reunion! Miaoqi wedding! Tier nine demon Ziqi!
Outside of that, of course I'm busy with @cdramazine. In real life, I don't have any big projects going on outside of cleaning the house. We're fostering three kittens right now, and they're adorable of course.
I know we, and Changyu, especially, have been peeling back the layers in Xie Zheng's personality well before this scene. From the glimpses she sees of the real him, the little slip ups or casual mention of violence or even his disdain for people in power, she knows there's more to him beneath his cavalier gebtleman persona. But in her heart of hearts, she still thinks of him as a delicate princess locked in an ivory tower. One whom she rescued from a snowy death and for whom she is responsible for. She feels protective of him even while knowing he can hold his own. But this is perhaps the first time she truly sees his real face behind the mask and it. is. fucking. terrifying.
This is the first time he's showed her, in the most visceral way imaginable, the depth of his feelings for her. He's jealous, angry, and lashing out! He can't believe that she would be so accepting of their separation, doubting whether he even means anything to her. And so, like an idiot, his jealousy pushes him to the edge when he forces a kiss on her, trying to imprint himself to her memory.
The way he callously wipes his lips off blood after she slaps him. And his look of disdain?? That arrogance of wounded pride of a thwarted lover?? She has never seen this side of him! This is the same man who felt too shy and flustered to look at her naked ankles. To see him here, now, it's like looking at a stranger. The look of hurt, confusion, and betrayal says it all. In that minute, she doesn't recognize her lover.
Changyu hasn't been the best judge of character. She trusted a man for 10 years, and he betrayed her in the worst way possible. So her hurt and confusion are understandable. Had it been under different circumstances, Xie Zheng would have probably handled this better. But boy has decided to put his foot in it and be a possessive idiot and kiss away her doubts, and it's no wonder that shit doesn't work!
This scene is so layered, and it shows them at their most vulnerable with each other, second-guessing everything and feeling hurt over the other's actions. It pierces through the paper window of their relationship, laying out feelings that they were both dancing around while playing house prior to this. It's the perfect segue into the next arc when Xie Zheng "conscripts" into the army and leaves their town. It is one of my favourite scenes from the novel. And I genuinely can't believe they pulled it off to perfection!!! I'm crying!! 😭😭
Zhange linghe channelling his inner delicate, sickly beauty in Pursuit of Jade! 😍😍
Trying to explain to people who don't watch cdramas that they fucking like rabbits in their soul palace for 3 days straight in order to heal him back to life while hidden away in a pocket dimension and on the run from their cult of which he is the god that they are also actively trying to cannibalise is WILD.
Very pleased that they used up all their cgi budget on this.
Big fan of that muscle jumping in his cheek as he clenches his jaw hard enough to restrain his feelings around her and maintain a degree of composure!!! 🥵🥵🥵
I love how no nonsense these two are. There's something irrevocably pulling these two together and throwing them into each others orbits. Rather than fight the feeling or play dumb, they acknowledge the elephant in the room.
You know what? Cdramas 100% get it. They understand that the only way a man is attractive is when he's bloody and bruised, and preferably holding a sword.
Exhibit A:
Girl, me too...
Exhibit B:
Please, he's so fine!! 🥵🔥
You know how sometimes when you're really enjoying a drama, you almost don't want to talk about it??? That's me with this week's episodes of My Royal Nemesis. It is so freaking good. I just want to inhale the whole show directly into my bloodstream and carry it with me like so many fond memories.
You don't understand! I am so tired of Netflix kdramas! The same cookie cutter, vanilla, pastel production with "greenflag" mls that have the personality of sour dough and somehow are obsessed with the fl for absolutely no reason! I hate how mls have basically been reduced to an accessory: look pretty and show off the fl as she girlbosses across the continent. Where is the drama??? Where is the personality??? Both ml and fl have just been reduced to archetypes that I hate watching!
But this? This has the intensity and obsession of OG kdramas while still toning down the misogyny and toxicity, and also simultaneously empowering the fl lead like a normal person. I missed chemistry like this that is palpable and irresistible! And not based on a series of tropey trip and fall as the ml catches you moments either! It's electric and an absolute treat to watch! I love this show for reminding me what I loved about kdramas in the first place!
Netflix kdramas are generally trash. But between My Dearest and My Royal Nemesis, it does strike gold once in a while. Here's hoping it doesn't crash and burn in the 2nd half!
