It’s four years since my friend Run Wrake died. He was a great director who could have achieved so much more if he had not been taken from us so young. It was his wish to not be forgotten and so I thought I would share his 2005 animate! masterpiece Rabbit. Which really is a timeless classic.

Run Wrake ~ Rabbit (2005) This is a really cool, weird/surreal/disturbing animated short. Well, well worth watching, if you like such things, haha. It is kind of messed up, but really excellent!

Run Wrake's Rabbit.

Though it doesn't appear to be based on any particular fairy tale, the story has all the trappings of one--- the little idol's ability to turn objects into different things is reminiscent of older tales where the fair folk would change things through glamour. The idol itself can be compared to a leprechaun. And the way the short condemns greed is very much in line with folktales.

One final note: Run Wrake sadly passed away in 2012 due to cancer. He is survived by his wife and two children.
