Long runs and slow pace

While I am not very self conscious of my pace in my mind, I can be very self conscious when I’m running with someone, or talking to someone who is much faster than I am. While at lunch today, I was talking with one of my coworkers, who keeps a <8 min mile. So naturally, I was a little hesitant when I mentioned that I was glad the pace requirement for Nike Women’s is a 15 min mi. Her first response was “I can’t imagine running that slow!” Now...this kind of response normally kind of makes me self conscious, because I’m normally around a 13-14 min mile person, regardless of the distance. So when I sheepishly mentioned that I’m a 12 minute mile on a good day, her response kind of stunned me.

“Yeah, but you do that for what...11 miles? I can’t even imagine running that long! I would burn out after three!” So yes. I may be slow. But I can go far longer than many others.

And you know what? I’m okay with that.
