lowkey i hate how popular nico is its silly but i feel like every marvel media with her just wants her as the hot asian goth chick with the cool aesthetic … they dont care abt the other runaways even her gf (but also she’s so much more than her relationship with karolina too!) which means there’s a limit to how much they can care about nico’s own character and story

I do get what people are talking about when they say Julie Power deserved better than how Karolina was treating her (I agree) in the issues she was at Runaways but I do remember back in the day some people saying "she was into Nico and prioritizing her over her girlfriend" and honestly that is a disservice to the three of them in my opinion.

Karolina had severe miscommunication issues with Julie, that is true. She was neglecting her relationship with Julie, most of all after the Runaways reunited, that is true as well, and Julie didn't deserve that because she's awesome. And I do agree that Karolina still had buried feelings for Nico (otherwise she wouldn't have started dating her later) and that Nico's presence eversince the return was likely kinda haunting the relationship as much as it was haunting her (lmao). However, speaking of the KarolinaxJulie breakup as if Karolina was openly thirsting over Nico and was some kind of cheater or couldn't wait for the breakup to get with her when Karolina had rejected Nico's advances weeks ago, was simply treating her as the long time friend she was and then it was Nico again who made her move when Karolina was available isn't fair for her tbh. You guys are missing the fact that Karolina was prioritizing the Runaways as a whole over Julie, not just Nico.

The moments we see where Karolina is truly prioritizing Nico over Julie (and over everyone) for a few moments? These ones.

Nico has PTSD. And while they were fighting Doom(bot), she couldn't even move. Now, be honest with me. If you were in the middle of a fight and your friend that has gone through hell—and who already told you when you reunited that she wasn't okay—froze in fear and you noticed, wouldn't you be concerned? Wouldn't you wanna go and help her and make sure she's alright? That's not her "pursuing Nico when she was with Julie", that's her being a normal person that gets worried when her friend is clearly not okay at the moment.

I might be a Deanoru fan but I do acknowledge that Karolina screwed up and Julie deserved way better than the treatment she was getting (and I agreed with her when she broke up). But again, in my opinion, placing all the blame on her prioritizing Nico over Julie when that's not really what happened isn't fair tbh. Idk just my thoughts.

LMAO. Listen you're not entirely wrong (minus Klara and Victor though lol). Most of those guys grew up in Malibu or some shit like that with wealthy parents, and Xavin even was a prince lmao. But given that most of them ended up running away from their parents and became homeless teens going from one place to another and who also weren't allowed to inherit anything from their parents after turning 18 I think it's not fair to call them nepobabies fr lmao. The only one who seems to have become wealthy again (or at least wealthy enough that she won't have to struggle for a few years) is Karolina because she's lucky enough that her parents were Hollywood stars and she still got enough royalties from them to pay for college and a car and all her needs, and enough for her to offer the rest whatever money they needed too. But the rest? Nico and Chase had to get shitty jobs and they all technically live illegally in a cave lmao. Not nepobabies anymore lol

The first Deanoru kiss in the comics made me scream back in the day but the confession moment right before it happened? It's so cute and also

That lesbian thought she wasn't hearing this correctly or that she was dreaming. And I mean, understandable. Imagine you're Karolina. You've known Nico since you were kids, she basically became your best friend after you guys became Runaways and you also were realizing you were a lesbian at the time and you ended up developing the most insane crush for her. You tried to kiss her when you were 16 and she rejected you. You moved on, though, and you've dated two other people you genuinely liked. But you never really truly got over Nico: you gave up on her romantically and you two remain friends, but deep down you still have feelings for her. So imagine you're 18-19 now and you're single right now and you're just thanking your hot goth friend you're still in love with for being there for you, and she just goes and basically tells you that she regrets rejecting you because she has feelings for you too and asks you for another chance. Yeah a goofy face is reasonable. I would have just straight up exploded if I were her lmao

I think something I really like and even find endearing about Deanoru is that before Karolina, and that's something even Nico herself agrees with, Nico has never been in love before.

Nico has clearly had crushes before and she's far from unexperienced in dating and all. Like fir example, she liked Alex before his betrayal (and after Murderworld, back when she was a mess, she ended up hooking up with him again). She dated Victor for a while. She's at least kissed Chase a few times-- But that's the thing, though. She first hooked up with Victor also in a moment where she was lonely and looking for comfort (Gert had recently died). He was cute, attractive and a good guy—unlike Alex—, so she didn't mind dating someone like him. But then things end by the end of v2 because he fell in love with Lillie-- and Nico just let him be with her. In fact even pushed for it, which??? She tells Chase that she'd never had with Victor—or anyone—what those two had and lets it go. Nico even later basically admits that their relationship was mostly physical and they didn't spend much time actually talking. With Chase? Well, they both found the other attractive and they had chemistry, but neither of them have ever had feelings for the other: Chase has only ever had that with Gert, too. The times they kissed was because one or the other felt terrible and they were seeking for a way to feel better.

And yeah, Nico literally says it here. She'sd never had something like that. She'd never been with someone she's in love with. Which is why it really is endearing and cute at least for me, seeing how she acted around Karolina, who she later says to, and I quote, 'I love you so much I don't feel big enough to hold it'. The way she acted around her was just cute. Blushing and getting flustered just by Karolina smiling at her. Looking at her like in one of those panels above. Confessing to her and then later on having happy shocked face when Karolina calls her her girlfriend for the first time. Her singing love songs when Karolina leaves to college for the morning and while getting ready to work after spending the night together. Making costumes for the two of them so she can be with Karolina while she was acting as vigilante, all their cute interactions in general. She is happy just to be with her and she finally had that thing she was talking about earlier, being with someone she truly loves, and it was just adorable to see it tbh.
