Holding an asphodel flower in his palms, 9S can’t help doubting the magical properties of this place. Even if it was an important part of seeing how legitimate it really was... whether his scepticism being challenged would mean he’d have to take a different approach or not... somehow, plucking the petals of something that seemed so delicate, and so sacred.

Perhaps it was his fault, for associating flowers with funerals, for seeing them so rarely – but even for someone who would make any sacrifices for curiosity, this was something he felt was wrong to try. “Do these flowers really work for transport?” he asks the nearest person, as if he wasn’t particularly uneasy at all. “Magic seems kinda unlikely, doesn’t it?”

Her heels clicked against the night’s silence as she walked along the Asphodel District. The familiarity of a midnight walk was comforting to Sarah Thay. The glittering stars that fought the shine of the headlights, the smooth air with just a hint of chilling oblivion: it was all the same as home.

This walk, however, had more purpose than relaxation. It had been a few days since Sarah got transported into this city. That was the time she needed to shake off her disbelief and settle into her apartment. There was just one more thing she needed to do. Find out where the hell Shade was. He’d been the one to open a portal here, and at first she thought he would follow her through. That didn’t seem to be the case, though. She’d checked the city’s center each day and hadn’t seen hide nor hair of him. He didn’t just make a portal and abandon her here, did he? Sure his motives were a mystery, but he had always seemed friendly to her. She sighed before spying a silhouette in the distance. She was hoping for a lot, but could it be? “Shade?” She tried tentatively.
