This is another running cadence, an upbeat one I always found catchy. I actually called it to myself while I was running out of formation. The final line, “I made my living as -” can essentially be re-purposed as anything, so as an example I’ve put three different lines. You can make them all the same or all different; it doesn’t matter.
As is the case with many cadences, one of the verses, specifically the third one, is almost certainly objectionable because it refers to killing Iraqis. The verse I’ve provided is a bit less brutal than the ones I was taught.
How’d You Earn Your Pay?
Oh, when I get to heaven
St. Peter’s gonna say-ay:
“How’d you earn your living, boy?
How’d you earn your pay-ay?”
And I’ll reply, with a fist full of anger,
“I made my living as an Airborne Ranger!”
Oh, when I get to hell
The Devil’s gonna say-ay:
“How’d you earn your living, boy?
How’d you earn your pay-ay?”
And I’ll reply, with a boot to his chest,
“I made my living in the leaning rest!” *
Oh, when I get to Iraq
Iraqi’s gonna say-ay:
“How’d you earn your living, boy?
How’d you earn your pay-ay?”
And I’ll reply, with a shot to his head,
“I made my living putting you to bed!”
*The front leaning rest position is the formal name for the push up position, the implication being that he earned his living by doing push ups
