How Plato's cave is connected with being open
Nowadays the world is in a constant rush... replay... the world is standing still, it's us who run! Job, school, home stuff, meetings, being up-to-date makes even our relations with people more shaky. We tend to talk fastly with, for example, friends and not listen what they say to us as we are deep in thoughts of what to say next, what we have to do or solve. What's needed is for us to start being good listeners. Of course, being good interlocutor is also important but people won't like you if you talk all the time and don't listen what they have to say, don't respond to their thoughts or worse- we talk over them. So practise patience, patience, patience (oh and calmness too)! I think that I can listen to people all the time but sometimes I catch myself becoming impatient inside and I am working on it. We should be more open on what somebody may have to say, on other people's opinions and on getting knowledge from them.
Another aspect is tolerance which is being open to somebody's religion, skin colour, nationality, gender, sexuality, opinions and culture. The antagonism to tolerance is racism. I think that racism or not being open to mentioned above things can be explained on Allegory of the Cave made by Plato. Here it is explained:https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=162&v=1RWOpQXTltA In my opinion, people in the cave were afraid of the truth or of different thinking, beyond what their eyes were seeing. Same is with racist people. They are afraid of what they don't know and of what is foreign to them. In this way, instead of trying to check the facts, learn and grow they close themselves to these things. They often react with anger and denial.
Being open to new experiences, like travelling or meeting new people is also very rewarding. It makes us evolve into more conversant people and more brave too. Break your limits and you won't have any.
//Enjoy being open and breaking out of Plato’s cave<3
