His weight shifts carefully in towards Steve, tilting his chin forward until they’re breathing each others’ air, a hairsbreadth from touching. “We’ll see if you earn it, big boy,” Eddie murmurs into the smokey air of the bar and sits back, satisfied, swirling his rocks glass and sipping indulgently. The grin on Steve’s face at the blatant challenge has its twin on his own lips, he can feel it.
