"Be kind, for everyone you meet is facing a hard battle." As most of you probably know (thanks to the awesome power of social media), yesterday was National Suicide Prevention day, or #ruokday2015. Stats have been shared, stories have been told, and as sad as it is that so many of us will or do experience mental illness, it warms my heart to know how many people care. I want us to continue this discussion year-round, to keep talking about mental wellness in all forms, and dispelling the idea that there is a stigma involved. We should feel comfortable speaking up, rather than waiting for others to notice or ask. I struggle to think of many people in my life who haven't faced mental illness at some point. It’s so incredibly common, and yet can still leave us feeling so alone. This is me letting you know that you aren't alone. Know that you are worth fighting for, and that no matter what you’re going through, you are loved. Whether you’ve known me since high school or followed me on social media for five minutes, I’m here for you. If you ever need anyone to talk to, or simply to feel heard, you can come to me. If you have my number, you can call or text me at any time. You can message me on tumblr, or here on Instagram. Battling along in silence can often seem like the only option; it’s not. I have struggled in the past and not spoken up because I didn’t think my problems were valid, or didn’t want to seem like I was seeking attention, but I was wrong. We all deserve attention. We need attention and love and support to survive. Anyone, of any country, race, gender, sexuality, age, wealth status and Hogwarts house can face mental illness, it’s not a choice and it doesn’t discriminate. You are worthy of help. Reaching out can be scary, but it will do so much good. If you are having trouble and don’t feel ready to speak with a professional, head to a website called 7 Cups of Tea, where you can talk to trained listeners anonymously. Also, talk to your loved ones. Let them know you're there for them, not just once a year but always. Let's keep this discussion and support going. It’s okay not be okay, but please do know that someday you will be. I love you all 💛 (at Yosemite National Park)
