tell us a little about your rusprus /prurus headcanons please
okay! yay! this post gonna be looong. i have so many headcanons and even a full storyline of their relationships through history but i’ll try to highlight the most important things.
1. they only get together after the fall of the soviet union. before it their relationships were so complicated with that mutual pining but it wasn’t working out. and it is very poetic to get together exactly at the moment when you’re both free from each other politically. that’s the time when only feelings play the role.
2. gil obviously doesn’t really hate ivan. firstly, because it’s not historically accurate — they were enemies, but they were allies too for many times. too many bonds to speak about simple hate. secondly, yeah, ivan often pisses gilbert off, he’s a tough person and so is gil. but gil is grumpy, distrustful and afraid to show his vulnerability to anyone. he was angry at ivan just because that russian ass made him ✨feel something✨. something very, very strong.
3. i looove that trope “person A fell first, but the person B fell harder”. ivan is the person A definitely. since the battle on ice when they met for the first time gilbert impressed him so much that his image never left ivan’s head, and sympathy grew inside with ivan himself. that’s why braginsky was a lil more chill abt his love. he just get used to it and had no other way than accept it. but gilbert… oh no, he fell in love much later, when ivan became an empire. it was so unexpected like a fall into the abyss so gil was frightened to death. and locked his love deep inside (not very successful but anyway)
4. already in a relationship, they often swear, but now this happens on domestic issues. they no longer have anything to discuss as countries and therefore it is time to clash as individuals. that's why i love the fact that in the ussr they all live together in this crazy soviet house and at the same time they just collide as people. this allows you to get to know each other better and even become friends. and only then do relationships begin. without this period, nothing would have happened.
5. my opinion might be controversial but i see gilbert as a bisexual with a MUCH bigger preference for women. 99% of his attraction goes to women and 1% for ivan. that’s an another reason why gil struggles with his feelings to ivan — they just doesn’t fit into his normal life. and also gil never had relationships with other countries. he was sure that it will ruin all politics (he was right). so he just had a lot of light affairs with mortal people. but ivan is different. firstly, he’s 100% gay. sorry guys, i can’t see him even touch a woman. trust me i’m russian. secondly, he had affairs with countries (netherlands, france, china, usa) and actually yes. it affected on politics really bad and ivan struggled with it too.
