OK so i have this english teacher that i hate because she acts like her opinions are facts. and some of her opinions are just plain wrong. i was having a discussion with her about specific and collective nouns(like egyptian and arab) and then she says “yeah, but then there’s shia and sunni muslims, which are both islamic and therefore the same.” i look at her frozen for a second, being a muslim myself, and say, “no, no. sunni and shia muslims both have different beliefs. saying they are the same is like saying protestants and catholics are the same.”

SHE SAYS “because they are the same. they’re both christianity.”

i tried explaing to her that that doesn’t make them the same, but she’s the teacher, so her opinion is right and she doesn’t have to listen to a student. so i end the discussion and leave.

its experiences like these that make me rethink everything i thought i knew about the world.
