I was drawn to the scene after he had died, it wasn’t drastic enough to pull me there beforehand. More than one person has to die for that to happen

Well if you didn’t have your pants so much in a twist and had let me near the body I could have told you

Writing up the article about the gala and Raúl’s death

Is there anyone who could confirm that?

I’m sure I don’t need to explain how this kind of a story is a goldmine for the Gazette, or for any journalistic platform. The whole office was buzzing over the story for days after the Gala, most of us didn’t sleep for days we were so busy working

What do you know about any of these people?

I know the names, though more through reputation than personally. I know of Barber and Carvalho through their names being attached to autopsy results we refer to in our articles

Did you see any of these people at the Gala?

I can say for certain I didn’t see Clarice or Mateo, I wouldn’t know about Barber or Carvalho since I only know their names and not their faces.

Can you think of any reason they would lie in their testimony?

I’m a journalist, my job is often to prove when someone has lied in a testimony. So would you like me to reel off the list of possibilities of reasons people will lie?

What evidence do you have to back up your own statement?

My postmates account, my hardrive, my IP address there is plenty more there if you want it

In a costume fitting, I’d lost a little weight since they first measured me so my costume had to be altered slightly

Is there anyone who could confirm that?

The wardrobe manager and my director, they were both there with me all night

What do you know about any of these people?

The only name I recognise is Mateo, we’ve known each other for years. More through our parents being friends, I hadn’t spoken to him since I left for New York seven years ago.

Did you see any of these people at the Gala?

I may have seen these people but since I don’t know them I couldn’t say for certain either way, I know for certain I didn’t see Mateo there at all. 

Can you think of any reason they would lie in their testimony?

Look, I can’t speak for the others but I can speak for Mateo and I’m sure he would never lie in his statement.

What evidence do you have to back up your own statement?

This one, or my last one? I still have my shoes with the broken heel from the night of the gala and the wardrobe manager took photos of me in the costume after she had refitted it

I’ve told you everything I remember from the night, I’m sorry I can’t be more help

Where were you on the evening of May 26th, the day after the Gala?

“I went to the movies to go see National Treasure 3. Now, I know what you’re thinking- Nick, there are only two National Treasure movies. But that’s just what they want you to believe.”

Is there anyone who could confirm that?

“I went with the star, Nicholas Cage, who is actually a personal friend of mine. We met at Nicholas-Con 2017. Good luck getting in touch with him, though. He’s busy filming National Treasure 4.”

What do you know about any of these people? (Herby, Dorian, Sanne, Mateo, Clarice)

“I know they’re all suspects for the murder of Raúl Suarez.”

Did you see any of these people at the Gala?

“Wasn’t there, buddy.”

Can you think of any reason they would lie in their testimony?

“Well, and I don’t know if you’ve considered this, like this may be out of left field but just bear with me, I promise- but uh maybe one of them committed the murder? I don’t know though. Just like, a completely random thought.”

What evidence do you have to back up your own statement?

“A ticket stub for the movie. Oh, shoot, actually, I had to burn the ticket stub in the incinerator. The secret of the third National Treasure must live on. I’m sure you know how it is.”

“Nope.”

Who do you think is Suarez’s killer?

“Have you considered that maybe the real killer was the friends you made along the way?”

“Seriously, I have no idea why you people keep calling me back here. I’m starting to think maybe you just enjoy my company. Do you have a crush on me, Officer? Do you want my number? I know yours is 911.”
