She waved her hands, rolling her eyes in exasperation. “Well of course it’s not exciting for Mateo,” Euna retorted, annoyance clear in her voice, though her tone bordered on patronizing. “I’m talking about for the rest of us.” A small huff and a tilt of her head. “You don’t have any questions at all about why?”

“Of course I have questions about why, I would be a pretty shitty coroner if I didn’t question the death of the body in front of me” But Sanne’s personal connection to this particular death, she had decided must be the reasoning behind her sudden emotional output, “of which Mateo currently is. And his spirit is angry.”

Euna nodded enthusiastically, seemingly unaware of the other woman’s lack of excitement. “Exactly!” The scientist bounced a little on her feet. “Because it begs the question of why Raul thought to impersonate Mateo in the first place! Why couldn’t he have just left Mateo’s body to be found somewhere else and not get all this attention on some big public figure ‘dying’?” She was practically vibrating with curiousity. “It’s exciting!”

Death was familiar to Sanne, it had been her constant companion quite literally for most of her life so for the most part it would beyond rare for it to effect her emotionally. But there was something about discovering that Raúl had somehow swapped himself with his son that had struck the blonde as wrong and far from exciting as was being implied “I promise that Mateo disagrees with you there, he’s dead.”

That was probably wise. Less fun, but definitely the right choice. Paloma finishes wiping away her ruined makeup and passes the mirror back to the blonde. “You some kinda psychic?” She asks, finally processing some of what she had been saying, “Cause if I’m about to die I’d like to know. Just to be emotionally prepared or whatever.”

Sanne discards the mirror back into her bag “You could say that, a clairvoyant for death.” She adjusts the gloves on her hands to make sure no accidental slip up could happen here, it wouldn’t be the first time and if she was brought here by fluke the last thing she wanted was to actually end this on a death. “I could actually predict your death if you really want to know.”

Girlfriend. He really hopes she has the good sense to not go around telling people that. “Thanks.” He stands for a moment, his eyes lingering on Victoria’s corpse. Nick really was grateful that Sanne was helping him here. “Let me know if you ever need a favor, I owe you one.” Meanwhile, he had a man to frame.

“You all owe me, I’ll just add this one to your tab” She shrugs, it made no difference to her who killed the bodies, it didn’t change the fact that they’re dead and they were screaming at her. To be polite she throws a simple “Good luck” over her shoulder to Nick as he leaves her morgue, slipping on her latex gloves to begin working on the former ballerina.

Euna had halted in front of the screen when she’d heard the news of the whole switch. She’d also completely blanked out on anything that anyone had been saying around her. So when the news piece ended and her brain finally returned to its proper location, she did a full about face and grinned at the person behind her. “Damn, well that makes this a whole lot more interesting, don’t you think?”

Considering that Sanne had been present during the discovery of the said mixup, both as part of the coroners and through her power to connect to the dead, she was far from amused by any of this. “It’s a clusterfuck” She offers back somewhat tersely, however her boss had done this Sanne was extremely unimpressed to be in the middle of it all.

He winces at the fact that he’d said Ridley’s name, that was a silly mistake, but given the fact that Victoria was apparently talking about her he probably wouldn’t have been able to keep her identity a secret from Sanne for very long anyway. Nick considers Sanne’s question, glad he had been cautious enough to build in a possible scapegoat to this murder. It was something he did fairly frequently but had never actually come in handy before. He hadn’t gotten the man’s name, but had taken a sly photo of him as he left and Nick had found people with less before. “Yeah, I think so.”

“Well then” she announces proudly, ever so slightly too loud as if she was attempting to drown out the voices in her head “I’ll have no problem getting your girlfriend off the hook!” She moves back over to her desk, shuffling through folders and papers on there until she finds what she is looking for, the one labelled COSTA, VICTORIA and scans through the crime scene notes. “Ideally I’ll need the sample in the next day or so, though if you can’t get me anything that’s fine I can still make it work.”

“If you’d like suggestions, I have a couple. There was this guy I got to put his DNA all over the scene. Also, her roomie, Angelica, might have-” He pauses and considers the particulars of this scenario, “Or we could just ask Victoria if there’s anyone she’d like to see framed for her murder. Other than, you know, me or Ridley. ” Unless this is a question of won’t rather than can’t. 

Sanne contemplates this for a moment, engaging her work brain to be a coroner rather than a nut-job though often these came hand in hand. “That may just work” She muses, contemplating Nick for a second after he dropped the name “the random guy I mean, the roommate would only put this Ridley under deeper suspicion too. We need to rule out anyone from within the company- will you shut up” She directs the last part at the lifeless body on the table, if she was this annoying in life she could imagine why someone had wanted her dead so badly. With a sigh she turns to Nick and adds “Victoria says go to Hell. Now, about this DNA, would you be able to get any more of it, something I could plant on the body?”

“Thank you kindly.” Paloma takes the mirror and tissues and starts to dab at her runny makeup. She was glad she was past the point where paparazzi actively followed her everywhere, it was one of the few perks of her fall from grace. She definitely didn’t want this face in a magazine. “What sort of drink?” She asks, uncertain if the woman is implying water or alcohol, and more uncertain of which answer she wanted.

Sanne gives the woman a pointed look, of which the blonde was well known for. She still wasn’t sure what had lead her to this alley, and what was encouraging her to help this woman when any other time she would simply leave. After all she knew if they were going to end up dead or not, either she’d be seeing them again in the morgue, or they’d be fine and so didn’t need her help. “A drink of water, the very last thing you need is alcohol” Sanne had been there and done that herself, bad mix “unless you are in fact the dead body just not dead yet, it’s not unusual for me to arrive early to a death.”

jade’s face falls. raul’s death — worries her. above everything else, jade prefers stability, and raul had promised to help her find her friends and reunite her with them as soon as the time was right. standing up from her chair, she says, ‘ well, i won’t keep you for any longer. it was nice getting to know you, sanne. ’ 

Sanne smiles her farewell, if slightly forced for the most part it was sincere enough for the odd blonde woman. She had to admit, even if begrudgingly, that sometimes it was nice to have actual living company in the morgue.

it strikes jade how similar sanne’s powers are to her own, and she suddenly feels a pang of grief over where they both are. clearly, sanne hasn’t had to enter the underground under the same circumstances that jade has, but it remains that there doesn’t seem to be anything else out there for people like them. there’s a reason why the underground is so far reaching, spanning multiple criminal organizations and even having diamond city’s own founder under its thumb. and there’s a reason why no one had known how influential the underground was until said founder was killed. jade decides to change the topic, and finally breaches the one topic that’s currently on everyone’s mind. but unlike the rest of the public, who are just beginning to get a glimpse of what has been going on in the underbelly of their own beloved city, jade and sanne are both well aware of how the involved the underground is in almost every aspect of what happens in diamond city. ‘ who do you think killed raul ? ’ she asks. ‘ do you think it was one of us ? ’ it doesn’t escape her notice how she doesn’t even hesitate before labeling herself as part of the underground, where only a year ago she wouldn’t have even considered it.

Sanne grumbled more to herself than for Jade’s benefit, it had been greatly irking the blonde that the body had gone missing from her department. Dead bodies were Sanne’s thing, her only thing, and somehow she had managed to lose one of the most important ones to come through her morgue. Now she had no idea to trust within the department, and why they had been determined to keep her away from the body. “If the body wasn’t missing I could tell you exactly who”

Who was Mike? Oh, wait, that was the fake name he’d given Victoria. “I believe Mike would be me.” He states awkwardly. It’s not a typical scenario to be interacting-by-proxy with a person you’d just killed. “Well I’m afraid her opinion on the matter is rather moot because she’s dead.”

“I can’t just magic up another suspect to get your girlfriend off the hook” Sanne rubs her head as she tries to tune out the dull hum coming from the body on the table, there was a lot of conflicting information coming from her that easily confused the blonde. As soon as Nick had owned up to being Mike that had made plenty of sense, it wasn’t the first time he’d used an alias since she’d worked in the morgue but she just wished Victoria would be bloody mute.

Ah, the painting at the park. Okay, at least that makes some sense. Nick peers over at the body and nods when he recognizes his handiwork. “That would be the one. I know that this isn’t normally how this works, but a-” he pauses, uncertain of what exactly to call Ridley, “friend of mine is a suspect for her murder. I would appreciate it if evidence came to light pointing the blame at neither her nor me.”

Sanne gets close to the body on the drawer, almost uncomfortably so as if she was listening for some kind of sign from the dead woman though in reality she had always been able to hear the spirit “Who’s Mike?” The blonde responds at first, her gaze moving over to Nick in curiosity. Then she remembers that he’d said something to her and her eyebrows knit together “She doesn’t like your friend.”

“Thank you kindly.” Paloma takes the water and glugs it down until it is almost empty. Jeez she’s a mess right now. It’s so embarrassing when this happens, and it isn’t even her fault she’s an addict. She often considered checking herself into rehab, but she could only see the headlines now. 

Sanne watches the woman chug the bottle and instantly feels bad that she doesn’t have another in her bag, but that brings her to another thought instead. Rifling through the handbag once again this time she offers out a a pocket mirror and a pack of tissues “Once you’ve cleaned yourself up we’ll see about getting you another drink.”

Rowan blinked as he snapped back to the present, shaking his head slightly as the other tried to comfort? him. He wasn’t sure if that’s what they were trying to achieve, nor was he certain that it worked. The young man didn’t want to hear that he couldn’t have saved them; in his mind, he absolutely could of. Things had just gone wrong, and if he had been better prepared, or even took time to train more, it could have been different. “How do you know that? There… Was something I could have done.. I could have paid more attention to… What was happening.. I could have taken a different route.. Or actually practiced more..” Rowan sighed, his gaze drifting back to the other.

With a sigh Sanne sits in chair at the table without waiting to ask for permission, leaning towards him with an intense look in her eye “I’d say I hate to break it to you kid but this is reality, and not just mine.” Death was Sanne’s life, it frustrated her when others seemed to forget how prominent it was for them too instead of ignoring it’s inevitability. “Because of my power I’m essentially a Banshee, I was drawn to the fire because people were going to die. Nothing anyone did was going to change their deaths, it was their fate and my being there was the proof. Are you understanding yet?”

“What?” He asked, already confused. Great start. She was apparently in one of her less lucid moods and he wanted this conversation to go as clearly as possible. “Look, Sanne, I uh, need a favor. Did you get a body in here- Victoria Costa?” He was slightly nervous about the whole scenario. Normally if he wanted someone to do something for him, he could just threaten them into it, but he needed Sanne’s help and didn’t feel great about breaking whatever working relationship they had. Instead he was just going to have to plead the old fashioned way.

Sanne nods to herself as she begins noting down the information she’s gathered on the clipboard in her hand, frowning once Nick’s words register with her and she yells “The painting!” Standing back to her full height Sanne focuses on the assassin in her morgue with intensity before wordlessly walking to the cabinet at the back of the room, opening a door and pulling out the drawer with the covered body laid out on it “This one? She’s been screaming at me since you came in.”

“That’s a weird thing to say.” Paloma blurts, before realizing that calling people weird is rude, and you don’t want to be rude to strangers. “Sorry. I will let you know if I see one.” Not that her sight was particularly consistent right now. She waved her hand in front of her face and watched as it went in and out of focus. 

“Please do that would be great” She sighs, it was clear there was nothing around here that could have brought her here so she would just have to let the mystery rein. As Sanne brings her attention back to the woman she rolls her eyes at the sight of her focusing on the hand, yanking open her bag to rifle around for her bottle of water that she offers out to her.

Nick really had not expected that Ridley would be a suspect for killing Victoria. She had the perfect alibi and well, she wasn’t the killer. He was. And now he felt more than a little guilty. Not for the murder- that was just business, but for getting Ridley wrapped up in it. Maybe Sanne would be able to help pin the kill on someone else. This wasn’t typically the way things worked, but he hoped she’d be willing to make an exception. “Sanne?” He called out, paying her a visit at the morgue. 

At the sound of her name Sanne doesn’t look up from the body on the table in front of her, busy inspecting the entry wound to add the details to the clipboard in her hand.“It was supposed to be a vase of flowers” She responds instead, referring to their previous interaction in the park without any clarification for him as to the fact “though I thought it looked more like some kind of elephant.”
