Why are Burmese and Chaussie in your "crimes against humanity" section of your cat breed tier list? 👀👀 I found it really interesting to see what your fav and least fav breeds are
Two different reasons!
The chaussie is a recent wild mix (domestic cat crossed with the jungle cat), and as far as I’m aware they are still an “open” breed, meaning that you can still make more chaussies by breeding domestic and wild cats. I think genetically/health wise there isn’t much wrong with them, but morally I am not a fan of people poaching wild animals for breeding projects. The same goes for Savannah cats. I’m fine with bengals like Kepler since they are a “closed” breed, meaning you can’t make new bengals by poaching and breeding wildlife.
Burmese can have something called “burmese head defect” which can be lethal or result in stillborns if breeding two cats that are carriers, similarly to how crossing two munchkin cats result in stillborns. They also are prone to congenital frontonasal displasia. Both of those problems arise from the unique head shape of the breed- to get rid of the problems you would need to change the head shape, thus changing the breed standard/what makes a burmese a “burmese”.
Here’s a good article on burmese head defect and the burmese breed, it describes it better than I can. A note- I believe the American burmese is more extreme than the European one.
