As my niece Harper would say, “Yeah buddy!” Very happy with how this piece came together!! It’s inspired by ideas surrounding masculine and feminine energy and identity, as well as traditional views related to industry and domesticity. And it’s also inspired by both of my grandmothers, who were both beauticians. It feels appropriate to finish at this moment since a wonderful friend of mine just lost her mother, who was also a hairdresser. A new project I picked up today. Excited to recreate this piece in styrofoam and hard coat, using 21st century tools - like CAD and a CNC Router. It was originally made in cast iron from a hand carved styrofoam pattern.
