We all know that Marlene Danielle is the longest-running Bombalurina, and that she played the entire Broadway run from 1982 to its close in 2000.
Here’s another fun fact, though:
She keeps her eyes peeled for the beads that invariably come flying off the costume of Mr. Mistoffelees whenever he does one of his daredevil spins. "They're Austrian crystals, very expensive, gorgeous," she says. "I collect them. I've got a bud vase in my dressing room filled almost up to the top... The guy playing Mungojerrie also does the same thing. So it's no longer a game. It's become a tournament.” - Interview in the Washington Post, 1997
So please imagine this Bombalurina...
... and this Mungojerrie (Roger Kachel, with Rusty Mowery as Skimble and Christopher Gattelli as Pouncival)...
... scrambling to collect the fallen sparkles of... this Mistoffelees.
(Jacob Brent, Broadway 1997.)
