It was a little late in the evening, especially since he had taken the time to settle back in at the apartment, unpack, and then gone out to dinner with Teddy. Still, he had plans, no matter how late it was, to surprise his boyfriend with a date the first day he was back. He might not feel one hundred percent on his new medication in fact, he can’t really focus on much, and the world feels a little shitty but that wasn’t going to hold him back- nothing ever had before, what was a little hitch? Not trusting himself to drive on the first few weeks adjusting, he decided to walk down from where he had dinner with Teddy, hands in the pockets of his jeans and admiring the fading sunset on the sky. There was just enough time left in the evening to figure something out for a date, even if it was just a night in or a little stargazing. And this time, he wouldn’t be scarfing down a plate of pasta in the most unattractive manner. Wearing just a casual Goonies shirt for once rather than the formal button-up and bowtie, paired with skinny jeans, as always, he had to remind himself where Ryder lived through a few ticks in his fuzzy mind. Fuck, it shouldn’t be this hard to remember everything. He had stopped by the florist- briefly- on his way to Ryder’s, just before they closed, with every intention of adding a little extra surprise to it. Pulling out his phone as he drew closer once he finally remembered the address after a brief review, he pulled up Ryder’s name in his messages.
to: ry ❤ [sms] dusty: Hey!! Look out your window, babe!
Folding his hands behind his back to keep the surprise, he pranced up to the front steps of the door and rapped on it, pushing his sunglasses up into his hair- preened and looking neat, despite his curls, thank god- and whistled a tune while he waited. Splitting a grin when the door opened immediately, he dipped a slight bow, purring, “Your Aladdin returns!” Maybe not Aladdin. He doesn’t have a magic carpet, among other things. Straightening and giving him a charming smile, he took a step forward, taking the opportunity to press his lips to the other man’s briefly. “I brought you something!” he said cheerfully, producing the bouquet from behind his back and offering it up to him with a sly expression. “I thought you might like a- uh- a gift. Our last encounter wasn’t exactly the most romantic... Least I called you while I was away?” Maybe sent a few flirtatious texts too. The small smile remaining on his face, he found himself wanting to close the space between them, ultimately refraining. “I was... thinking we could go on a date tonight? I know I’m kind of springing this on you but... I’d really like to. I don’t have the car but... I’m sure we can think of something?”
