tbh a fair bit of why i like them is bc they represent me and my partner in my head a bit BUT outside of that i think they are a really interesting matchup
watcher - nb they/she, rivvy - transfem she/they (not set in stone)
fair warning, havent actually played watcher 1.5 yet so if any of this is inaccurate lmk jhds, spoilers ahead of course.
i imagine watcher has abandonment issues due to their family's death as a pup and hasn't had a stable home in forever, hopelessly wandering prior to meeting spinning top
i can't decide if spinning top gets to stick around or if watcher lets them ascend with a heavy heart, but probably the latter. i think they help prince initially too but after seeing the decay the rot causes they follow the weaver's path when she finds it, but holds nothing against prince and sees him as a friend still.
more encounters with the weaver makes their fur become feathery and lets them create warps at will, of which they begin to jump between areas more freely once the rot is pretty much gone
in her warping she finds rivulet, an explorer that takes a particular nerdy interest in ancient history and uses information she gains about iterators to help keep them up and running (so like, iterator mechanic, mainly inspired to learn after meeting moon)
you can imagine how they hit it off after rivulet learns watcher KNEW an ancient and can take her straight to ancient urban to see more (i had rivvys headcanons before watcher came out so this was rlly funny ToT)
so! they become travel buddies, seeing the world together and watcher getting their fair share of history dumps and theories from rivvy, discovering the pearl reader together and finding a place to call home in ancient urban together during their journeys
they might try to see whats up with prince too? idk
watcher is a tad bit clingy but rivvy, a very physically affectionate fishy, doesn't seem to mind
i find it fun to put the stranger slugs together, fishy and feathers, sky and sea!
other general things... watchers earrings are from/represent spinning top (star) and prince (wheel flower) respectively. after gaining feathers watcher shows a lot of bird attributes like puffing up for warmth or to appear scary, the golden linings of the feathers shining a bit.
rivvys jewelry is ancient inspired and sometimes just stuff she collects while out and about
im not the best at making in depth headcanons so this isnt all that detailed and maybe scattered, but if you'd like to share fun ideas go for it!
