me dredging rwbydub back up again: anyway i'm a fucking clown yang makes trip-hop. jesus christ it was so obvious,

like rn where rwbydub is at where it sits in the back of my skull is like:

yang is trip-hop inspired when she's young--think portishead, massive attack, sneaker pimps--branching into more varied approaches like bonobo and zero 7 (especially when blake is around with their more eclectic collection of genres) so her style shifts a lot depending on her mood! also think mononome, maybe theo parrish too? she definitely spreads out into house music at SOME point.

and blake is grounded more in jazz and bebop--nothing in particular, just a huge mess of influencing from all over the place--initially before getting into sampling, remixing, and sound experimentation (think more like quantic's incredibly broad range of inspirations) before they start doing DJ stuff in mistral and are introduced into more dance-oriented genres like drum and bass that still has a heavy core of sampling to it, later leading them to broaden their style and incorporate darker, more textured samples to their work in the style of old school dubstep and later burial, vacant, niels binias, etc.

ruby at the moment is most like look mum no computer in the sense of building her own gear and equipment and whilst i do like LMNCs post-punk style (and were this au more oriented towards rwby rock au at this point id probably go for it) i still think ruby would be a very varied musician who plays with a lot of weird and wacky stuff... i'd imagine she'd have her fair share of stuff that's really off-the-wall like flume's later work, but would also be inspired by yang to work in more solid boundaries like perhaps ross from friends, bicep... overmono, maybe? unsure. definitely think she'd make a return to her roots in the style of no mana, though, lmao.

weiss remains an ABSOLUTE mystery to me. initially in the first version of this au she was centred around being The Vocalist but im tempted to have her actually make some stuff of her own in this? for now i'm going to tentatively pop kelly moran here. that is extremely subject to change. but yeah,

it's so funny thinking about rwbydub so many years later after my music tastes have changed (somewhat) because it's like... now ruby is like Look Mum No Computer with her DIY 80s post-punk synthwave, blake's become a jazz-funk-whatever-fusion bassist as you'd see in a Louis Cole show and yang is just dankpods. i'm not wrong. you go look at dankpods and tell me that's not yang.

DFSJHGGJSHKDFDF okay well thats not fair cause faunusrights didnt even EXIST in 2015 BUT... yes. this requires context tho so let me, like, explain my crimes first,

i dont have a rwby rock au but i DO have a rwby... uh... electronic music producer au???????? it’s called RWBYDUB (cause dubstep honk honk real clown hours) and i made it cause i was personally more interested in the dynamic of bedroom producers getting together, because there’s aspects of anonymity i wanted to play with as well as the whole ‘make a remix/do a collab/make an act together’ type thing! but Anyway.

unfortunately i haven’t really touched RWBYDUB in a while cause despite me plunging headfirst into historical AU with nary a care, i decided to try and learn more abt actually making music first! which i did! and then i got really into learning to drum and, well, yeah. so it’s been on hold for a while but i think about it a LOT still lmaooooo

if you DO want to read really old and bad fic by yours truly, there’s a couple of ways to find out more: number one, you can read this fic i wrote in 2015 that’s only on ff.net because it’s THAT old! again, it’s REALLY old and REALLY bad but it DOES kind of explain what the hell i’m going with this. so there’s that.

alternately, if you want newer writing and don’t mind mild coding bugginess, i wrote a Twine fic! abt RWBYDUB! it’s a CYOA kind of thing but it was mostly an excuse for me to write a MILLION words of flavourtext??? it’s, again, kind of buggy because this is and always will be a WIP, but that’s there, i guess,

lord im thinkin abt rwbydub au and honestly if i had to blame a song for that whole au its this one, which i decided was a cover weiss made that made ruby go ‘we HAVE to have her sing on our tracks’

which implies that rwbydub was always a liquid drum and bass au. which it is.

What head canons do you have for the rock au

god okay fun fact: i really like rwby!rock au but i don’t rly... listen to any music that fits the genres? so i actually went off and made an electronic music version called RWBYDUB, haha. same deal, but all four of them hang out in their bedrooms and make music and wind up working together on sweet collabs.

i’m working on a twine game in this au, and on my fanfiction.net which i no longer use but still exists, you can read the first two chapters of the fic that i’m redrafting at some nebulous point in the future. but yeah. i don’t really have any for actual proper rwby!rock, but if you want me to talk abt RWBYDUB i can, and will, for 9 aeons.
