The young blonde looked up at her now apparently big sister. "Whoa! Ruby! When did you get so big? And old! You're like twenty or something!" She was stoked that her five year old sister was a grown up now!

"Don’t worry, we can handle this!" Ruby called to her sister; though the forest was dark and little could be seen, the brief flashes of light from the sisters’ weaponry gave sufficient light for them to navigate. Ruby could hear the Grimm moving through the thick undergrowth, its large, heavy paws crashing down. However, while she’d planned on shooting at it from another angle then moving to a different spot, she’d misjudged her timing and the beast’s speed. It swiped at her, knocking her back.

She rolled, doing her best to deflect any injury, but she was winded. It was just then that she saw the Grimm raise its paw once more, its claws glinting in the moonlight, then bringing it down swiftly for the finishing blow.

But then there was an explosion of light and flame, the Grimm slain in one hot burst.

Ruby sat up slowly, her vision finally readjusting in time to see Yang collapse to the ground, sparks falling from her hair and fading in midair. 

The younger of the two crawled towards Yang, one hand on her sister’s shoulder. For the first time in her life, Yang’s skin was cold.

Ruby felt her blood turn to ice, her eyes widened in horror. She shook the blonde’s shoulder, whispering for her to wake up, that this wasn’t funny, to please answer her. But there was no response, save for Yang weakly reaching up her hand and touching Ruby’s cheek to wipe away her tears.

"Yang, no… No, no, no… Don’t… Don’t go…"

This time, there had been no other choice. No time to make any other decisions. Either she acted, or Ruby died.

It was cold when it went in. Even the heat from her weapon was chilled by the icy cold freezing her to the core. Yang knew there and then that she was done. Had she made a difference?

The Grimm lay dead on the ground, fading into nothingness. That was the nice thing about them. No unpleasant body left behind, they just faded back into the darkness. Mankind wasn't so lucky. Yang wished she could just disappear, to spare Ruby the sight. If there was anything she regretted about her decision, it was the fact Ruby would have to see her die.

Her legs gave out and she found herself on the ground. Her vision was the first to go, and all she heard was muffled sound. Ruby's voice above her. She couldn't see anything, except a blur of red and white and black. She reached up with what strength she had left, her hand finding cheek, and moisture.

She smiled blindly, using her thumb to wipe away Ruby's tear. She wanted to speak but there were no words left. But she was determined not to go sad. Be strong for Ruby.

Her arm fell, laying across her stomach, and it did not move again. She hated to go so soon, but it had to be done. With a disturbingly cheerful smile, Yang's life came to an end.

"Yang? Have you seen my tights anywhere? These have a run in them, so I wanted to go put a different set on. Weiss'll never let me hear the end of it if I don't..."

"Nope, haven't seen them! Sorry, Ruby, it looks like you're in a bit of a tight situation."

Yang chuckled at her own joke. "Nah, but I'll keep a lookout for them. How far could they have gone?"
