For the fic ask game: 1, 2, 20, 21, and 28 :)
Thanks for the ask @rwggrace2 !!
1. Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely?
Probably all of them at some point. 😅 But seriously I have a oneshot I've been sitting on for officially two years now since the passing of May 4th. It's basically Ahsoka dealing with her first few months in the war as a fourteen year old. Rex finds her alone and upset and comforts her as best as he can despite not really understanding how to process those emotions himself. I've never shared it because there's just something wrong with it. Something I don't like. I need to completely tear it apart and rewrite it but at this point it's been two years. It may never happen.
2. Anything that you’d like to write but feel like you’re unable to?
So much. Everything. I want to really get into the military side of the Clone Wars. Dealing with the DC Two-Step side of things. The funding, the politics, logistics, the higher-ups causing issues for the people just trying to get the damn job done. But I just don't know any of that. I don't know what goes into any of it and it incredibly difficult information to get a hold of. At this point I feel like I have to try getting into the military just to get some semblance of it all. But they already refused me once so that's likely never going to happen.
I'd also like to see more consequences and means of space travel. What does it really take to keep those huge vessels moving? What about artificial gravity? How does hyperspace travel work? For that matter are blasters a laser weapon or a plasma weapon? How are they put together?
I'd love to explore all of that but again, it takes a lot of research, time, energy, and planning that I really don't have.
20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?
I have ADD. I literally can't work on one thing at a time. I think I'd probably combust into a burning pit of frustration and loneliness if I only worked on one thing at a time. That's not to say it works well. I have notes scattered everywhere. Post-its stuck to my walls, alarms in my phone and tablets. I skip from one fic to the next to two more in a matter of five minutes. Probably another reason I can't finish anything. It's frustrating some days but it's better than trying to lock it all up in my head at once.
21. Can you accurately predict how long your fics are going to be? If you can, what’s your secret?
No. I don't write multi-chaps because of this. I avoid it all by writing oneshots only. It's just what works in my head for some reason.
28. Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?
Harsh. But it's literally the greatest writing advice I was ever given. No one cares that you made a typo. No one cares that you used that trope again. No one cares that you abandoned that story. It's an incredibly freeing way to look at your work because it gives you absolutely no stipulations or requirements beyond what you set for yourself. Other people's opinions don't matter. If you're not writing for yourself there's simply no point in writing. Write like no one cares and maybe in ten years there will be one person that does care.
