Welcome back to RxP! Today I'm going to talk about something I've mentioned a few times before in chat, OneWord. What is it? How can I use it? Does it work?
OneWord is a book that guides you through what it is, and how you can have your very own word! I'll link the book at the bottom of the RxP, so you can buy it for yourself, which I highly recommend! I'll just be briefly covering it tonight :)
There are three steps to the OneWord process:
1. Prepare your heart
2. Discover your word
3. Live your word
This step is all about setting aside time to think about what you want to achieve. Find a time where you can sit (maybe do some deep breathing if you know what I mean) and meditate on words that may fill those needs. The shower is a great place to think about what words you might pick from! Turn off your phone (yes, the music) and think.
Don't force yourself to pick a word right off the bat! Your word should come to you naturally, or through careful and thorough thought. When I first heard about OneWord, my very first instinct was PERSEVERANCE. I had already been living life using that word for a while, so I thought it was perfect! But after I read the book, something told me that there was a better word, and I just had to find it. Had I gone with perseverance, I wouldn't have found my OneWord!
My trio's word came to us on accident. We were brainstorming words on the plane to training camp, and someone mentioned that they were hot. As a joke, my partner blurted out the word "perspiration". However, it immediately sparked my word bank, and I shouted said "aspiration!" We decided on ASPIRE to be our word for the 2017 season, and INSPIRE to be our word for the 2018 season. You could say that we aspire to inspire.
Once you've found your word, it's time to start living your life by it! We'll take "aspire" to be our example word. So, say there is someone you look up to for their healthy eating habits. You aspire to be like that person. Great, you have your goal set already! Now go out and achieve it.
Let's take another one. "Perseverance", perhaps? Let's say you're having a really hard time staying on track while doing homework. How would your word change the situation? With perseverance, you would persevere through the work until it was done!
Your OneWord should have a special meaning, one you won't easily ignore. It may take some time to find your word. That's okay! I'm going to start asking if anyone has chosen a word yet starting tomorrow, but don't feel rushed to find yours! Brainstorm until there's no more brainrain. Find your OneWord. Live it out.
What's my word, you ask? What do you mean, nobody asked? ...ahem... I chose the word FIGHT. To me, fight means that I am strong. It means there is a journey. It means that I will keep fighting, no matter what happens. To me, fight means that I will fight for myself, fight for others, fight my fears, and fight for what is right. Fight is my word.
A few notes before I end the RxP: Firstly, you should only use your OneWord for one year maximum, and no repeating words from thereon out! Even ten years from now, no repeating (This is stated in the OneWord book)! Secondly, make your word yours. If someone else chooses your word, talk to them! If you are both fine with having the same word, that's great! If not, don't be afraid to choose another word, or talk to them calmly about how you feel. No matter what happens, take pride in your word. Lastly, spread the word! Bring OneWord into your family, your school, your communities (like PtP!)
I'm excited to hear what your words will be! Until next time, stay you, stay true, stay beautiful and new!
