PRIDE in the surrender inspires the smallest of smiles; it’s tentative, though, and ready to FLEE, for he expects something entirely ELSE from her. Perhaps he’s come to expect this ELSE from everyone. The safest thing, not to be disappointed, not to be DENIED. His seat creaks lightly with the shifting of his weight, an unconscious preparation for diving into dark places and darker roads.
“You seem quite a bit more eager to speak to me than the others,” He surmises, almost HESITATING to move forward simply for fear of DISAPPOINTMENT. “Perhaps you have a tougher skin against the world. Do you believe so?”
❝ My friend won’t talk about it. She pretends like it never happened. She’s the one with the tougher skin, ❞ Amber admits freely. She has such a desperate need to talk to SOMEONE about what happened.
