The Pikmin didn't stop at first, for sure. But after a few tries, they... did. It seems like whatever was affecting Olimar didn't spread to the Pikmin. They stood behind Louie, jumping off of him.

Olimar had no response. All of his Pikmin, in an instant, had turned on him. And he simply didn't do anything but stand and stare. It's as if Olimar himself was nothing but a shell...

“I'm sorry, Lou. Ollie's sleeping right now. He said he wasn't feeling too well.” The poor dear was exhausted. Always working himself down to the bone, day in and day out... even Bulbie seemed to know that it was best to leave Ollie right where he was: passed out on the couch, with a Hocotate Daily newspaper heaped on the floor beside him. His first day off in ages, and he was too overworked to enjoy it. Although she'd turned several other Hocotatians asking for Ollie away (mostly the President, trying to squeeze an extra work shift or two out of him) she wouldn't do the same to Lou. Her husband talked about him so often and so highly that he was practically family. "Did you travel a long way, hun? Come in, I'll fix you something to eat."

Happy birthday, Olimar! Your colleague has a cake just for you- look, he didn't even eat any of it! Be proud of him, that took A LOT of self-control he probably wouldn't have had before some Character Development. It's tangerine- your favorite, right? He thinks he recalls you saying that. Either way, he's already made it, so... he hopes you like it.

For only a moment or two, he had to wonder what kind of…experimental ingredients Louie could have used in this cake. Especially considering he hadn’t taken a single bite. But, he couldn’t just be rude and say no, especially to free cake on his birthday.

Taking a bite, the captain smiled. It tasted wonderful. Not at all like what he’d expected. So, naturally, he went in for another bite of the cake, closing his eyes as he enjoyed the sweetness of it.

    “Thank you, Louie…”

He spoke up again, after swallowing. A bright smile shined on his face.

Olimar let out a heavy sigh. "Louie, I... I'm sorry. You were right." The Captain paused. "I should have taken your words into more consideration. I was following orders with no sense of self preservation, much less preservation of my crew. I was reckless, impulsive, and above all, greedy. And that... it almost got us both killed."

He didn't feel like the brave hero his kids always made him out to be. He didn't feel like the caring individual he was around his family. He hardly felt like he was worthy to be carrying the title of Captain at all.

"Please, stand up so we can go back into orbit. It's not safe down here."
