“Unless you want a broken hand, I’d remove it from my thigh. Now. Thank you.”
@magicandmayhcm played muse roulette and won Ryan
“Can’t I just enjoy a night off without the world ending?” She wanted nothing more than to have a date night with her greatest confidant Jose Cuervo. What she wouldn’t give for a break! There was a small voice in her head that urged her to just ignore the problems of the world and focus on herself. But she never let that voice win. It wasn’t in her nature. “Alright, how can I help?”
Blood in the Water

A trail of newspaper articles detailed a pattern that Ryan could not ignore. A string of deaths dotted her map, each flag indicating a morbid truth. Town after town suffered suspicious deaths. The victims all suffered from puncture wounds either on their neck or their wrists. Major arteries slashed and their blood drained. The tell-tale sign of vampire activity. Ryan always wondered why vampires didn’t try to hide their tracks better. Anyone with any superficial awareness of literature or pop culture could recognize what a vampire attack looked like, even someone who refused to see the truth of the monsters that lurk in the night.
Sitting on the fire escape of the cheap hotel room she was renting, Ryan flipped through the police reports from the afflicted precincts. Smoke billowed from her mouth as she brought the cigarette up to her lips for another nicotine hit. Her fingers released the cigarette and let it linger in her lips.
According to the files she had gathered on this case, the vampire had to be in this town. There was a method to its killing spree. It certainly had a type: young women. Up until this time, Ryan had been one step behind the vampire. She continuously arrived in town just behind the vampire attacks. But she never gave up on the track. She had to prevent the next death.
She had already done a few patrols in this town. Over the course of the last week, she had located a few vampires. But she was only one person. There was only so much she could do. Still, much to her disappointment, her transient vampire remained at large. Ryan was determined to change that tonight. This vampire was going to pay for the deaths it caused.
She pressed her cigarette against the iron railing. Dying embers fell through the grating to the ground, followed shortly by the butt of the cigarette. The clues of her vampire puzzle were all in front of her. She just needed to put it together. What better way to help her think than hunt down another rogue vampire?
Slipping through the window into her motel room, she grabbed her machete and a few other items, including holy water. Deciding against a jacket as she considered it too confining, she headed out into the night in search of her target.
