Rain Up.Weird Existential Questions with Up-and-Coming NYC Heavy Hitter, Damon Hall
Rain Up.
Weird Existential Questions with Up-and-Coming NYC Heavy Hitter, Damon Hall

Once Upon a Time…
on rainy day on New York City’s Lower East Side, I had the wonderfully interesting opportunity to skate with and interview an up-and-coming phenom by the name of Damon Hall.
Damon Hall is on the up…to say the least. I call him DH, because, like a Designated Hitter in baseball, he is ready to step up to the plate and deliver bangers and homeruns. His pop is so sick, the dude can literally kickflip out of the atmosphere.
As a matter of fact, the rain didn’t even bother him. That morning, I was ready to scrap the interview because of the inclement weather, but he said fuck that, let’s skate! That is how determined he is: rain or shine!
Damon Hall came from Orland to NYC, via Pittsburgh and Phoenix. He is young with old-people-like traveling feet. He rips with a smile and farts with the best of them. He kicked some ass in Florida, and now he is killing it in NYC.
He is tooth goofy off the board and terribly serious on the board…like as serious as a stroke victim with minutes left to live and moments left to bust a huge ass hardflip. He exudes confidence and pressure; desire is a great and terrible thing especially on a skateboard, or within any sport or art, for that matter.
He chose me to do this interview because I am a poet first and foremost. And like most artists, he is limited to his brush. His brush is his board and sense of humor. My paintbrush is my misspelled werds…This is why we got along since the past.
After the set, we went to McDonald’s where I bought him a quarter pounder with cheese and picked his brain for a whiile. We sat and talked about skateboarding, and Bruce Willis movies, and how happy he is to be in NYC, just struggling and striving to make a name for himself.
Trust me, this nig, has a name….and his is Damon Hall. Recognize.
What’s your favorite movie starring Bruce Willis? Die Hard with a Vengeance, Looper. Wait! No! Lucky Number Slevin! Underrated and super dope.
Warm up music? MMG, Wiz Khalifa, Chief Keef…hip-hop gets me going.
Beer of choice? Presidente
Favorite hubba trick? (he get’s specific, twice) 360 50-50, or Lip Slide 5-0 180 out!
Coke or Pepsi? (he is a crazy nig) Pepsi! Coke is just too harsh.
Have you ever hit a dude with a rake? No, but I have hit a dude, Kids style, with the blunt of my board’s trucks.
Do you like Puerto Rican girls that drink Diet Snapple? no comment.
Favorite Book? The Ghost of the Wooden Squid or The Da Vinci Code.
What’s the difference between Pitts, O-town, Phoenix and NYC? Just the progression…pushing of the envelope. There aren’t too many black skaters in those towns, yet here in NYC at the LES skateboard, you, the writer, are the only white dude.
What’s the advantage of NYC? One Word: Insane.
What’s next for Damon Hall? Filming and friends and poets and artists and photgraphers and taking over NYC. I envy his ambitiousness and his confidence. Something tells me this won’t be our last interview and our last adventure.
Last Line, DH, Any Shout Outs, Homie Hook-Ups? Pow! Skateboards. Rock Star Bearings. Coyote Blood, and poetics. Louis Arnold. Adrian Lopez Jason Dill youtubes, and everyone who loves to skateboard. also clyde singleton. also showing mad love brian wenning and the homie sammy baptista.
“You get there, man, and you’re there.”

River Horse Summer Blonde Ale - by Ryan Buynak
River Horse is a badass brewery based out of New Jersey. Yes, New Jersey. Unlike, the state, they are doing a number of cool things. Besides the fact that they have Horse in their name, their logo contains a hypocritical Hippo.
They are re-releasing their Blonde Ale this summer to much expectation. It is a delicious Summer Blonde, a light brew mixed with dense summer-time flavors. We could go into the citrus and the hops, but that seems to be semantics. This is not your normal summer beer and River Horse is not your normal brewery.
Started by two, buddies, who didn’t want to work behind a desk, this is a drive worth the fucking filter. But the filter isn’t in the beer or the brand. The filter is the bullshit. No bullshit here. This summer, east coast, if you find a River Horse beer, open it up and dive in…with mouth and mind.
I kiss you in the future, on the same bench in the park in Union Square. My knees will be weak And you will still hate me, but we kiss like it hasn’t been six years.
