New Arrival: Ryan Ludwick, of, Cincinnati Reds
I was told that Ludwick thought that the printing plate was pretty cool while he was signing it.
I am, I think, Ryan Ludwick biggest fan. I have three game used bats on my wall: Hafner, Mench and Ludwick. Some day, if I ever find a Reds or Indians game used jersey, I would have it framed on my wall as well. Bummed me out that he was injured all of last year, so I am hoping for a nice…

Cincinnati believes that the outfielder is healthy.
The Cincinnati Reds have “explored adding” free agent outfielder Grady Sizemore, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. General manager Walt Jocketty believes that Sizemore, whose career has been derailed by injuries, is healthy, reports Sheldon.
More from Red Reporter: Bad Lyrics, Good Plate Discipline
Sizemore was once seen as an all-around player who could hit for a solid average with power and patience, steal bases, and play above-average defense in center field. Indeed, his career highs include a .290 average (2006), 33 home runs and 38 stolen bases (2008) and 101 walks (2007). He also won Gold Gloves in 2007 and 2008.
However, Sizemore flamed out before he really hit his peak. After receiving down-ballot MVP votes for the fourth straight year in 2008, he was limited to 106 games in his age-26 season in 2009 before succumbing to elbow surgery; the injury was cited as a reason for his decreased production that year. He appeared in only 104 games combined over the next two seasons due to a variety of maladies including injuries to both kness (one of which required microfracture surgery) as well a pair of operations for sports hernias. Sizemore hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2011; his attempted comeback in 2012 was cut short by back surgery during Spring Training. In eight seasons with the Cleveland Indians, the lefty batted .269/.357/.473 with 139 home runs and 134 stolen bases.
If the 31-year-old Sizemore is indeed healthy, then he would be a great fit on the Reds. With the departure of center fielder Shin-Soo Choo via free agency, Cincinnati’s starting outfield is currently expected to consist of Ryan Ludwick in left, rookie Billy Hamilton in center and Jay Bruce in right. Bruce, coming off three consecutive 30-homer seasons, is the only known quantity in that trio; the 35-year-old Ludwick played only 38 games last year after undergoing shoulder surgery, and Hamilton is still completely unproven in a starting role in the majors. Adding Sizemore could provide depth behind Ludwick and Hamilton while also giving the team a potentially high-reward lottery ticket should he enjoy a particularly successful comeback.

Reds Put OF Ryan Ludwick On 15-Day DL!
Cincinnati Reds starting left fielder Ryan Ludwick's season didn't get off to a great start, as he was injured sliding into 3rd base during the third inning of the Reds opening day 3-1, 13-inning loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday.
It's a very unfortunate injury for the 34-year-old Ludwick, who just re-signed this offseason to the club in hopes of being a key contributor once again to the team winning yet another NL Central division crown and getting back to his former All-Star form he had with the Cardinals in 2008.
Ludwick, who's now expected to miss up to three months after having surgery earlier today to repair torn cartilage to his dislocated left hand from the slide was a real key contributor to the Reds winning a second NL Central division title in the last three years after batting .275 with 26 homers and 80 RBIs for the ballclub last season in 125 games that included 107 starts in left field last season.
Coincidentally after first baseman Joey Votto got hurt midseason, Ludwick emerged as one of the teams most consistent run producers in their quest to the NL Central division crown by hitting .340 with 12 homers and 36 RBIs during the 48 games that Votto missed.
With Ludwick now out for an extended period the Reds will once again have a key component of their lineup that somebody else will have to step up and take the place of. As just like Ludwick stepped up after Votto was injured last season, Chris Heisey will have to do something similar when he takes over for Ludwick in left to help the Reds in their quest for a third division crown in four years.
The Reds proved last year after Votto was injured and everyone wrote them off that they are a resilient bunch so I'm sure this injury to Ludwick wouldn't effect them to much. I'm sure Heisey or someone else will make a more than viable replacement for Ludwick till he is able to comeback.
Reds' Ryan Ludwick sidelined 3 months with shoulder surgery
One of the biggest headlines from yesterday's whirlwind of Opening Day action concerned the Cincinnati Reds: outfielder Ryan Ludwick dislocated his right shoulder diving into third base.
On Tuesday, more details about Ludwick's situation emerged - he'll be out at least three months after undergoing surgery tomorrow to repair the injury.
This is obviously NOT what the Reds had in mind to kick off the 2013 season, especially after signing Ludwick to a 2-year extension earlier this year.
In his absence, the Reds, who were held to 1 run against the Angels' pitching staff in a 13-inning Opening Day loss, will have to pick up the slack offensively...it remains to be seen how they'll attempt to do that.
Reds Re-Sign Former All-Star LF Ryan Ludwick To Two-Year, $15 Million Deal!
The Cincinnati Reds went into this offseason wanting to keep most of their roster intact from last year and a team that won it's second NL Central title in three years and they did so by making their second big re-signing earlier today. As they re-signed left fielder Ryan Ludwick to a two-year, $15 million deal with a mutual option for 2015 just a week and a half after re-signing key bullpen contributor Jonathan Broxton.
The 34-year-old former All-Star batted .275 with 26 homers and 80 RBIs for the Reds last season in 125 games that included 107 starts in left field and after first baseman Joey Votto got hurt midseason, he emerged as one of the teams most consistent run producers in their quest to the NL Central division crown. Which is one reason why general manager Walt Jocketty said at a press conference at Great American Ballpark announcing the deal they really wanted to bring "Luddy back."
"Ryan was very important to our success last year, and we're looking to keep that momentum going into next season. He and his agents made it clear he enjoyed his time here last season and that he wanted to continue to play in Cincinnati. We know he had other offers, and we're glad we were able to reach an agreement to bring Ryan back for at least two more years. I felt like in this environment and this ballpark he'd do well and he did. And I think he realizes that and was a reason he came back."
Ludwick said at the same press conference how he wanted to prove that one year he was an All-Star (in '08) wasn't a fluke and that he can be an All-Star again. He also said,"I think the ultimate goal would be to win a World Series, and that's why I came back here. We have the guys in place."
Ludwick was a real key component to the Reds lineup last season even in the playoffs where he had three homers in the teams divisional round playoff loss to the eventual World Series champion San Francisco Giants and why you could see he had interest from several clubs. Including one that offered him more money. So you know the Reds, the city of Cincinnati and all Reds fans are real happy to have such another key contributor to their team back as they try to not only win a third division title in four years next year, but be strong contenders to win their first World Series title since 1990.
