When it’s a scoreless game, but you’re already in “bullpen blew the game” form.
Game #29 4/20/11 Tigers 3 Mariners 2
My trip to Seattle added a second trip to Safeco Field with afternoon baseball on a chilly day. For the first time I enjoyed fish at a baseball game, but it was nowhere near the best fish that I had this week. My brother-in-law took us to an awesome hole in the wall fish place by a punk club and it was amazing!
As for the game, the Tigers struck early on a Ryan Raburn home run and a Miguel Cabrera RBI single. The Mariners closed the gap when Ichiro’s 2,267th hit drove in one of my favorite former Pirates, Jack Wilson. Brennan Boesch gave Rick Porcello a two-run lead to work with again. That lead stayed at two until Adam Kennedy took the second pitch he saw from Jose Valverde and put over the fence. Papa Grande struck out three of the next four to pick up the save and end my baseball experience in Seattle. Back to Cincinnati.
Chicago Cubs at Detroit Tigers 6/23/2009 Game 11
Oh Happy Day! Anytime the Cubs have to fly the L flag is a good day, but when it happens in dramatic fashion, it’s even sweeter.
That day came when my friends from college and I ventured to Comerica Park on a fine June evening.Jim Leyland’s bunch was hosting Lou Piniella’s gang for some interleague action.
On the mound for the Cubbies was the lively Carlos Zambrano against Edwin Jackson, who was with the third of his soon to be record tying 13th team.
The first run came right away after the Cubs started with singles by Alfonso Soriano, Ryan Theriot, and a walk to everyone’s favorite board game maker, Milton Bradley. Derrek Lee hit into a fielder’s choice to give the Cubs a 1-0 advantage. A lead the quickly vanished when Curtis Granderson doubled and Placido Polanco tripled to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.
Runs were nowhere to be found until the Cubs manufactured some runs via small ball. A walk to Bradley and a double by Lee set up a sac fly by Geovany Soto to put the Cubs back on top. The Tigers took their first lead in the seventh when Zambrano hit Don Kelly and then surrendered a two-run homer to Brandon Inge.
With the lead in hand Leyland turned to his bullpen and flamethrower Joel Zumaya. Apparently the effects of too much guitar hero were still apparent and he gave the lead right back in eighth when Micah Hoffpauir hit a two-run homer.
The Cubs turned to their glasses wearing closer,Kevin Gregg, who had the effectiveness of a Major League 2 Rick Vaughn. After walking the apparently hard to retire Kelly, two batters later, Ryan Raburn sent everyone home happy with a pinch-hit homer to secure a 5-4 win for the Tigers.

Since the start of the offseason, the Detroit Tigers have been linked to nearly every available free-agent outfielder on the market.
Jon Heyman reported the organization has discussed several high-priced options along with a few platoon players.
