Imagine you're a Marxist-Lenninist with copious father-related trauma building an underground utopia, minding your own business while you keep an eye on your psudo-adopted brother whom you grew up with in an apocalyptic hellscape but who you've cut contact with for a couple years now due to his connection to your traumatic past.
And then he tracks you down, and tells you that he's a time traveler who has been looking for you for hundreds of years because no one else knew him before he started time traveling and he cannot develop any close relationships with anyone else.
You, who had been gently keeping track of him this whole time, you who had know where he was and how he missed you this whole time, you who had simply ignored him this whole time. You had no idea how long it had been for him, you couldn't have.
But god, he's here now and he's so happy to see you and when he reaches for you you flinch
Because you left for a reason, and even though he's had decades to heal and obsess you've only had a few years. And when you look at him all you can think of is your father's face
He knows it too, he cares for you enough to take his time but it's been so long. He wants you to fix him. He sees you as the key to all of his problems, the one person who remembers him.
He's wrong. You can't look at him without feeling sick and the guilt of that realization breaks you.
OUGH. God. You feel so obligated to love him after all the work he put in searching. You are his solution to life, his 'main quest'. If you just agree to talk to him, then he'll finally find peace.
But he's the dust, and the blood, and the grime, and the hiding from dad because it's one of his bad days, and the small hands scavenging for food after days because if you don't get it for yourself nobody's going to. He's the worst thing you've ever witnessed; a reminder of your childhood. And he's your best friend
