The Murder of Tara Grinstead
Tara Faye Grinstead was an American history teacher from Georgia. She had won several beauty pageants and earned a masters degree in education.
On the evening of 22nd October 2005, Tara went to a beauty pageant to coach young students and go to a barbecue. On 24th October, Tara's colleagues became worried as she had not shown up at work. They called the police and went to Tara's home. Tara's mobile phone was inside her house and her car left outside, her purse and keys were missing. There was no sign of Tara or anything indicating forced entry or a struggle.
On 23rd February 2017, investigators announced they had received a tip-off that led to the arrest of Ryan Alexander Duke. Duke was a former pupil at the school Tara was employed at. Duke had allegedly attempted to steal from Tara's home but when she caught him he strangled her and took her body from the house. Bo Dukes, a former classmate and no relation, was charged with attempted to conceal a death, making false statements and tampering with evidence. Tara's body was never found though Bo claimed it was burnt at a nearby farm.
Bo Dukes was found guilty for his role in attempting to conceal the murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Ryan Duke's trial was postponed.
