Lately, Ryder seemed to be distracted. He wasn’t himself and after Gen’s departure from the Club (at least as far as Seth is concerned) and the town, Seth knew that the man was probably blaming himself for his own prospect being a lost cause. Ultimately, it wasn’t his fault, at least not directly, considering Gen was never going to make it. And the only thing that Ryder could do now apparently was work. Job after job, Ryder asked for, trying to leave town or put his nose to the ground. Luckily, with the ongoing Club investigation, there was plenty for him to snoop on but as they neared the end of finding out what happened and why Finn and Maddox were shot— the jobs are beginning to be fewer and fewer, considering other people needed runs to support themselves. That’s why after one of the club meetings, with Ryder asking for another job, Seth shakes his head ‘no’, finally laying down the reality that Ryder couldn’t keep doing this. He looked tired and worn as it was, he couldn’t handle more and he shouldn’t be given more.
“Look— I dunno what the fuck is up your ass all of a sudden but you can’t keep takin’ jobs other people can do. I ain’t got anything else for you. And whatever’s goin’ on with you— I ain’t askin’ if you ain’t tellin’ but you need to fix that shit. You look fuckin’ awful,” he explains, far be it for him to sugarcoat the situation or the state of the redhead in front of him.
