Pinchy Drinks: Rye Bar
by Jen Barbera Picture this: the center of the Tenderloin, a nondescript front entrance, with an urban and hip presence. Enter Rye, a place of crafty cocktails, cool design and some bangin’ jams. Being that I went in late on a Monday night, I may not have had the most typical of experiences, but having heard Rye stands out for its killer cocktails, I didn’t mind missing the Friday night crowd.
Went in for the Basil Gimlet, but found myself nose deep in a Blood and Sand for the second round. Rye certainly doesn’t skimp on the alcohol, so tread lightly…or don’t say you haven’t been warned! The brick walls, caged wine vault and cement floor leave you with room to genuinely sit and enjoy your company and drinks, while still pleasing the eye. Does your date have you wanting to take a snooze? Head past the bar for a game of pool—an added cool factor.
I found the bartenders to be talented and knowledgeable without seeming to be on display like at some popular joints. I have heard it gets pretty packed on party nights, so get there early and grab a spot… and yes, your shoulder bag with MacBook will fit in just fine for the fresh-from- the-office crew. Enjoy!
