at grand park there’s a little conference room underneath the stairs and it’s the cutest little nook in the park
looking through my ryman arts stuff and finding old favorites
Hey! I see you went to Ryman Arts and I recently got accepted so I just wanted to ask how was your experience there and this is random but did you make any friends while being there?
oh my gosh!!! congratulations!! ryman is AMAZING, it definitely helped me out a LOT and gave me so many resources and connections and experiences that really helped boost my art career. i don’t know where i’d be without it.
it’s really great being in an environment purely dedicated to art where all the students and faculty and like the whole atmosphere is so focused on improving as an artist. ryman really helped me strengthen my technical skills and my foundation and without it, i probably wouldn’t have started acrylic painting or watercoloring or using pastels because 1) i didn’t know how to and 2) i didn’t have any of the materials. having the instruction PLUS the free supplies (and they are QUALITY. not like cheap stuff like they give you the real deal) really got me to start using mediums i’ve never tried before and really broadened my horizons!!
oh my gosh i could go ON AND ON about ryman, it’s so good. i’d love to talk to you off anon?? i’d love to know what campus you’re going to and we can totally talk about the teachers and the classes and the events and the whole program in general
and yes, i made friends there! i’m still in touch with most of them! keep in touch with the people you meet there and keep in touch with all of the faculty!! that’s very important!!
i love ryman!!! congratulations!!! you’re gonna love it!!!!!!
Have you ever gone to art school?
well not really? hmm
i took a little drawing class once a week when i was in 7th and 8th grade
i take art classes at my public high school
i took/take figure drawing classes/workshops at otis (i also took a 2d animation class there a while ago)
i’m a ryman arts alumni, class of 2016!
I’M CURRENTLY AT CSSSA ON THE CALARTS CAMPUS! (like, right now!)
free, quality art classes for high schoolers in L.A.
if you want to improve at art, you’ll be in high school next year, and you live in the Los Angeles area, then boy do I have the program for you! it’s called Ryman Arts, it’s free and awesome.
The idea behind the class is to give students a formal art education from the ground up--covering perspective, use of color, light and form, etc.--by providing high quality instruction, learning space, and all the materials necessary for the class. All the classes are taught by professional artists who work in their field. The three I had were extremely enthusiastic, helpful, and a joy to receive critique from. At the end of each semester, you get to keep your work and all the supplies left over- which is often quite a large amount of stuff. I have nearly three boxes filled with paints, pencils, and charcoal, plus multiple paper pads from class.
more under the cut because i have so many wonderful things to say about my experience. even if you’re not eligible, please reblog to spread the word. I just finished classes here and would be thrilled if more people knew about it!!
This January, my team made it to the 2016 Disney Imagineering Imaginations Competition finals. There were a total of 245 team entries, and we made it to the top six! The 20 finalists spent a week in Glendale giving our final presentations, attending tours and other wonderful creative sessions. Plus a day at Disneyland with reserved fireworks and parade viewing! It was an awesome week, spent with awesome people.
And as a result of that, I have been offered a creative producer internship at Imagineering’s HQ in Glendale, CA, through the Ryman Arts Sklar Internship!
I am so incredibly excited and thrilled!!
