Space ShipTwo VSS Unity

Richard Branson är en affärsman utan dess like. Han ser alltid framåt och har arbetat sig upp till toppen. Han omger sig med kunnig personal och sägs vara en fantastisk chef. Det är ju så inom alla företag att en bra ledare låter utbilda personalen och ger utrymme för deras kreativa idéer. Kanske är det därför Branson lovar att i år är året då världens första rymdturist besöker rymden. Hans rymdföretag heter Virgin Galactic och tanken är att rymdskeppet Space ShipTwo VSS Unity ska frakta turisterna 10 mil rakt upp i atmosfären. Det handlar alltså inte om en månresa men tillräckligt för att se jorden från rymden. 600 personer har redan löst biljett. Det måste vara något av den häftigaste resan man kan göra. Branson själv har tagit sig från att sälja elevtidningar till att ha en förmögenhet på cirka 40 miljarder svenska kronor. Härligt att han använder de pengarna för att göra rymden tillgänglig för fler. Innan medelsvenssons kan resa utan att betala miljonbelopp dröjer det nog ett tag. Fast i framtiden åker vi nog lika lätt till månen som Mallorca.

I may be streaming RymdResa in a lil bit

With the release of No Man’s Sky (a beautiful game that I am not interested in) I thought I’d revisit one of my favorite space games. RymdResa is a small indie game where you drift through space in a spacecraft and try and find a new home for humanity, as Earth was blown the fuck up. It’s quiet, calm, and interspaced with small poems and musings of your pilot. There is no battling, no enemies, just exploration and gathering. It’s also very soothing.

If I do stream (and I’ll let y’all know for sure in like an hour) I’ll read the logs and talk about life and shit and just be calm and happy :3

(But seriously? Check this game out. It’s great and a good stress manager.)

Dear People With Anxiety*

*and Steam and like $12 to spend (as of 11/10/15: $8.03, but that’s at 33% off)

I found a game that had been sitting in my Steam wishlist for a while and it was on sale so I was like “ahh, fuck it, I’ll buy the thing” because I have a bad habit of adding games to my wishlist and then never getting them. It’s called RymdResa and it is the most soothing, calming thing I’ve ever experienced in a game (short of Animal Crossing).

The game is a “procedurally generated space odyssey” in which you are the sole survivor of the destruction of Earth (i think?) and you wander space with a set goal in mind but no definite urgency to it. You gently drift from place to place in the cosmos and discover various stars. You can collect items and upgrade your ship, allowing it to go faster, pick up items from farther away, have a shield, etc, as well as discover interesting research items and various cosmic bodies.

But what I like best about this game is the serenity. Sure, you can die. You will die, whether to lack of resources (life points which slowly deplete as you use your engine), smashing into something (like an asteroid), or falling victim to a star’s gravitational pull, but it’s not cause some enemy killed you. THERE ARE NO ENEMIES. You just drift through space and every two in-game years, you hear a diary log that you (the pilot) wrote about life in space. Every diary fills you with an immense sense of loneliness and yet they’re so poetic that you can’t help but love them.

I played for a good long while on my first go, almost beating the first chapter (and yes, despite me saying that it’s calming, it does have a point past ‘float about in space and sigh dreamily as you see odd things from beyond the stars’) and I can say that I do not regret buying this and I recommend that anyone with anxiety or stress problems and no issue with feeling slightly alone (because in-game you ARE alone. You are the last human) get this while it’s still on sale.

(Also, did I say that the soundtrack is superb? Cause it is.)
