Sagami is Kyo’s(male lead) main retainer and known as one of the Great Daitengu. He always stay at Kyo’s side ever since he’s young to make him a proper clan’s leader. Kyo described him as cold-hearted person because of his straightforward but harsh way of speaking. He’s collected when it comes to his duty and doesn’t let his emotion to control him. He rarely express his emotions but he’s actually very concern to the people who’s important to him. For Misao(heroine), he’s like a boiling ‘blue flame’ cuz he’s warm-hearted and passionate. As a retainer, he always prioritize his duty first. Sometimes he also act like a wingman to make the main couple(Kyo x Misao) happy. Like giving Kyo some tips about romance? or talking to Misao so that the two will compromise. Cuz according to him, making Kyo and Misao happy is also part of his job.
He has one little brother, Houki and a wife, Ayame(Kyo’s cousin). As a big brother, he’s very strict and harsh but it doesn’t mean he don’t care about his little brother. Its the opposite. He actually knows his brother very well and even acknowledged Houki’s ability as a fellow tengu.
His love story with Ayame is very charming even though its just a side story. I wish its the main story. Since he always stay at Kyo’s side, meeting with Kyo’s cousin is inevitable. Ayame is a very beautiful happy-go-lucky tengu but unfortunately she’s terribly sick that’s why Kyo frequently visit her in the past.
When Ayame first saw Sagami, she instantly fell in love with him at first sight. But the sad thing is… Sagami is not interested in her. Cuz according to him, he don’t want a woman who’s only beautiful and he also added, a sick person carries a gloomy atmosphere. Basically, he wants a strong woman. A housewife carrying her child while working and plain looking girl who eats meat are his example of strong women. In the past, Kyo usually give Sagami errands to deliver Ayame’s medicine so the two can spend time together alone. As expected, Sagami didn’t complain cuz its part of his job but when he arrived at her place he witnessed a pale Ayame coughing terribly. That’s when he realized that Ayame is a strong woman and fell in love with her. He compare Ayame to a ‘intense light that has unwavering strong will to live’.
There’s a point in the manga where Ayame confessed that she wants Sagami to hold her(Remember, this a smut manga! XD) cuz she’s not sure if she will still live long even if Sagami don’t love her back. Of course, Sagami refused her coldly but instead, he offer her to be his wife and decided to be Ayame’s reason to live. They then promised that they must prioritize protecting Misao and Kyo first, instead of protecting each other. Because of their duty, they rarely have time together that’s why they treasure each moments every time they meet.
Eventually, Ayame is healed from her sickness and gave birth to their children, Ryuu and Tsubasa.
Thoughts:
I read this manga long ago cuz it was recommended by my close friend. She always annoy me to read it. She just don’t stop talking about this manga! (-__-) Because I was really annoyed, I ended up calling this series, ‘Black Board’ instead of Black Bird just to annoy her lol. As expected, this manga doesn’t suit my taste. I can’t even stand seeing the main couple. I just don’t like them, okay? not hate. Even I, have my own preferences lol. But fortunately, I finished reading this manga thanks to this long-haired bishie! He’s the only reason why I survive lol. Cuz you see, I’m really weak on serious and workaholic long-haired bishie like him. Oh! And I really like his relationship with Ayame! I like seeing them together! Its cute! Yes, its not that lovey-dovey kind of relationship but the fact that they understand each other’s desire seems like they’re perfect for each other.
