SOME OLD HEADCANON MEME
in his old lifestyle, Kei felt extremely safe. he felt safe in the knowledge that his education was advanced enough for him to achieve his goals, he felt safe in his surroundings & his life choices. he felt safe enough not to consider any other lifestyle aside from the one he was then living & planned to live for the rest of his life. he didn’t even consider that there were any other possible lifestyles out there as he felt safe from any of those possible deviations from his chosen path. until, of course, he died and his being an ajin was revealed & thus his safe environment was taken from him in the blink of an eye. in less than one day, the idea of safety in ones lifestyle has gone from being a given factor to being something he’d probably never have again unless the ajin species won the fight to have their own rights the same as those of humans.
Kei had to learn how to adapt to life all over again, had to learn that nowhere was safe and that no one was safe to trust. he had to learn that everything he’d pinned on his future was no longer an options for him, the safety of his comfortable normal life was snatched away & he’d be resolved to hiding away, fighting & changing his identity when he needed to, in order to remain the least bit safe for only a small amount of time.
physical safety is less a problem for Kei as his physical body is able to regenerate infinite amounts of times, but Kei’s one main concern is his mental and emotional stability that will steadily break down over time should his unstable & vulnerable lifestyle continue. his only form of safety he can now cling to is of knowing who he is as a person, his safe place has diminished down from being a circulatory routine of home life, school, studying & his goals for a medical related career; to now feeling as if the inside of his own self is the only safe environment for him to exist— & he has expressed a fair few times his fear of repeated decapitation. if one loses their head and regenerates another over & over again; can they still be called the same person? Kei’s only safe place he knows now is his own self & if that gets taken from him then he’s more or less the living dead.
