I'm rewatching S1E20 of Danny Phantom (with Circus Gothica) and Sam pays Tucker to be her for at school, but like, Sam (as for as I know) she's White, and Tucky is Black so like??? How'd he explain that?

I imagine not well since he wound up in the principal’s office, too.

Danny and Sam both looked at Tucker, eyebrows furrowed together. “Clockwork brings you taquitos?” Danny asked.

“Have you not noticed that after every time you talk to him, I have taquitos?”

Danny looked at Sam. “I-I’m not that oblivious, am I?”

Sam made a noncommittal sound. “You might be, but I’m not. I would notice if… oh my god, an omniscient time ghost brings Tucker taquitos.”

Hi there! Sorry to bother you, but earlier today you answered an ask where you mentioned that one of you favourite Danny Phantom headcanons is that Clockwork is the ghost of Danny's human half from TUE. Would you mind explaining that in more detail? It sounds really cool and I'm strongly considering writing a fic about it.

YAS! I actually just posted a little thing about it here that got out of control, but I’m always in the mood to say more! Also, this got long-winded, so it’s going under a read more.

Okay, so I’ve always wondered why Clockwork did everything that he did and why he made it so damn complicated. Like sending Box Lunch and Skulktech. Why send two relatively low-level ghosts to kill someone? Wouldn’t it make more sense to send someone more powerful from the future? Like Undergrowth or Vortex, or even Frostbite. The Far Frozen peoples may think Danny’s a hero in our time, but I’m pretty sure Dan fucked them over, too.

So that’s strike one. Sending ghosts that he knows are pretty much useless and will lead back to him.

Strike two is semi-related to strike one in the fact that he doesn’t just do it himself. He is allowed to interfere. The Observants told him to act, seeming to give him permission and free rein to get shit done, but Clockwork never touches Danny until the whole thing is over, and there’s that whole time travel lore rule that you aren’t supposed to touch a past version of yourself (Dan breaks that rule a lot, but he’s evil so…).

Next: we never actually saw Vlad rip the time medallion out of Danny. In fact, Vlad was gonna kill Danny to prevent him from ever becoming Dan in the first place. It was never actually confirmed that he got the thing out. That would directly connect him to time and theoretically allow him to use it once he got better control of it like with his other powers. Three strikes, you’re out.

Now all of this theoretically wouldn’t have happened to AU Danny who just got sent to live with Vlad without all the other shit, but it had to in order for the story to be possible. Otherwise Sam and Tucker wouldn’t have known the Nasty Burger was gonna blow and try to get Mr. Lancer and the Fentons away, and Jazz wouldn’t have been there trying to stop Dan. That’s three key players who have to have the events of TUE happen in order to place them at the Nasty Burger at the time of the explosion.

So we’ve determined that AU Danny went through the events of TUE but wound up with Vlad anyway and decided he couldn’t take the pain (that’s depression for ya). I’m betting he thought that he could stop Dan from existing even with all of this and tells himself that if Plasmius is gone, Dan won’t happen. So what does he do? He separates Vlad from his ghost half.

And maybe there’s a surge of spite on Phantom’s half (Clockwork is the master of time; he could have saved his family and knew it, but he just didn’t), or he thinks he can overpower the evil in Vlad, so he overshadows Plasmius. Enter Dan, bye-bye Danny Fenton.

AU Danny wakes up in the clock tower, slightly different than the Clockwork we know. He’s got an Observant looking over him, and suddenly he’s getting orders from them and he realizes what’s happening. Dan doesn’t exist, not yet, not in this reality. It’s the early days of man and Pariah Dark is king. Slowly, Danny builds up his powers, realizing why Clockwork- why he- did what he did. His appearance changes as he ages and his powers grow until he’s the Clockwork we know now.

One day, two Observants come in and show him footage of what Dan has done and will do. In all honesty, Clockwork doesn’t know if the Observants have just forgotten he’s Danny or if they expect him to not care about his former life, but he doesn’t question it. He sets the events in motion, still kind of shocked to be on the other side of the looking glass, though he doesn’t let it show.

The time comes, Danny and Dan duke it out, and Clockwork thinks- how many times has this happened? How many iterations of the story have been told over and over? Has Dan figured out Clockwork is what’s left of his human half? The episode indicates that Clockwork and Dan have interacted before, but in what form? And Clockwork decides he’s done. He doesn’t want to be in this cycle anymore, doesn’t want to play the board.

He puts a shield around his loved ones (and Mr. Lancer) at the last second, and he watches as his younger self realizes what’s going on. Suddenly, Clockwork has new memories. Memories of a life after that day, with family and friends and a clone he comes to think of as his daughter (more headcanoning) and becoming a hero for the entire world. And as Clockwork returns Danny to the day of the test, he smiles and says- you’ve given everyone else in your life a second chance. Why not you? And he leaves, knowing he’s done just that.

My favorite canon moment is when Jazz and Danny are on the steps of Casper High, and Danny tells Jazz that he knows she knows and she didn’t tell him because she wanted him to come to her in his own time.

As for my favorite headcanon, I couldn’t decide between two. The first is that Clockwork is Danny’s ghost, and in the darker alternate future, he’s the ghost of the Danny that Dan killed, but in the real timeline, he’s just Danny’s ghost.

The other headcanon is that Amity Park is a lot like Sunnydale from BtVS. There’s always been some sort of astral connection that no one really noticed until Sidney Poindexter bombed the school, killing three quarters of the people inside, including himself. That’s why there’s a Ghost Zone version of Casper High along with so many students from that era. Since then, CHS has held an average 17-20% mortality rate (the national is less than a quarter of a percent) due to ghostly activity (kinda like the hellmouth in BtVS).

When the Fentons started up their ghost portal, the attacks got more brazen, but they also got less deadly thanks to Danny. While the senior class’s mortality rate when Danny was a freshman was still around 18%, Jazz’s was only around 15%, and Danny’s around 10%.

tbh the fact that the woman for Genius Magazine (for women geniuses, by women geniuses, about women geniuses) went to Amity Park to interview Maddie but wound up writing a story about a boy who found out a near-extinct gorilla was a girl is just so real with the science world and pop culture in general.
