Imitation isn’t flattery when the message is lost.
In 2018, one in 130 white American men, gay or straight, has HIV. One in 20 black American men, gay or straight, has HIV. Almost half of HIV+ Americans under the age of 25 don’t know they have HIV because they think HIV doesn’t exist or doesn’t affect them. Pharmaceutical companies still charge 250 times the manufacturing cost for HIV prevention medications. Americans still believe decades-old lies that you can get HIV from spit or vaccines (you can’t).
Odds are one of those facts shocked you. That’s because nobody talks about HIV. Because nobody talks, Americans are still dying of AIDS, which is both preventable and treatable.
In other words, Silence=Death.
But, you know, go sports and expensive shoes and whatever.
